i'm a bit confused when it comes to telling what heads will would with which cabs without blowing them. I understand impedance must match but as far as wattage goes am i looking to see if the overall wattage of the combination of the cab speakers is equal to or greater than the wattage of the head? Or should i be looking at what each individual speaker can handle?
Btw, i'm aware that head is wider than the cab. I guess i'd have to either build a expansion platform on top of the cab or prop the head on a shelf of some sort next to it.
the continuous power handling of the speaker should be equal to or more than the rms output of the amp. 20w amp into 10w speaker will probably lead to a blown speaker unless you keep the volume low. 20w amp into 20w speaker will be ok if you dont crank up the amp. 20w amp into 50w speaker is fine even if you run the amp flat out.
a tube amp rated at 20w will actually put out more (potentially significantly more) power than that since the 20w rating is at 1% (for example) THD (total harmonic distortion). which means the amp is rated for 20w clean power. we as guitarist frequently turn the amp up past that point so it is putting out more power than the 20w rating as it gets into distortion.
if you have two speakers of the same impedance (two 4 ohms speakers wired in series for 8 ohms or two 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel for 8 ohms) then double the power handling of the lower rated one to find the safe power handling. so if you have two 50w speakers the cab could handle 100w safely. if you have one 50w speaker and one 25w speaker then you can handle 50w safely. if you mismatch impedance it gets more complicated.
the cab will work fine with either head you mention in this thread. its rated for 140w.
speaker efficiency (how loud the speaker is) has nothing to do impedance or power handling.
You could save $120 by going mesa and probably get more resale if you did decide to ditch it later.
Much heavier construction, awesome caster system, and with some options there isn't even an upcharge through a dealer, although they might require a pre-pay. Like one c90 and one v30 in the same cab.
I think they're even offering "standard" custom tolex options now, but maybe there is an extra fee for that stuff. (?) https://mesahollywood.com/products/2x12-vertical-slant-rectifier-cabinet
Thank you, i will consider that going forward but i already bought the cab pictured (i'm trying not to spill the beans on my NAD until it get here. I've said too much, i'm sure you can guess the rest. Shhhh!)
Oh, i haven't gotten the bogner yet. I was asking for future ref. Yes, if i ever got it, it'll take me over a year to afford it (like mesa, i can only find companies that will finance a bogner over 6 months so it's off limited til i pay of my current debts). My Upcoming NAD is a dif amp that goes with that cab (no guesses...Shhhhh)
