Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

I've never played a Telecaster, so I have no idea. Can you use Duncan Tele pickups in a S-S-S Strat pickguard without any modification? Thanks.

Re: Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

as far as I can see, I think the Tele and Strat pups are the same size.... but I could be wrong. Someone else will know the answer.

Re: Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

I'm almost positive that a tele bridge pickup would NOT fit in a strat.... but I'm not sure about a tele neck pup...

Re: Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

bridge pup too big, neck pup too small.

I'm not sure either, but I don't think the bridge will (as in 98% sure), and though the neck is a bit smaller, I think it will, as it's a not quite as wide, but I think the length is the same ... so as far as fttting in the ... Lew, Barlo, Fresh Start, Stratdeluxer (no order of preference there), any for sures on this?

Re: Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

As 3 cent hero said, the bridge pickup is too big abd the neck pickup is too small. However, rules are meant to be broken right? The Tele bridge pickup also mounts differently than a Tele bridge pickup. The Tele bridge pickup mounts with 3 screws instead of the two screws like on a Strat. Reverend has a really nice guitar that uses a pickguard like a Strat and they have mounted a Tele pickup in it. It's backwards but they made it work.

If you really wanted to install a Tele bridge pickup and a neck pickup in your Strat, you would do best to order one with the right type of mountings, from Warmoth. You could also just get a Twang Banger...

?????????????????? ... :laugh2:
That is a cool reverse mount though on that strat. I'd like to see that with a tele neck in the middle. :)

Re: Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

Won't fit without mods.

But one of my Strats came to me already sloppily routed for a bridge humbucker and the rout is big enough to accept a Tele bridge pickup.

I just got the Custom Shop Jerry Donahue and also the Custom Shop Tapped Hot Tele. And a nice white pearl pickguard from WD routed for a bridge Tele pickup.

So one of those is going in next week.

Haven't decided on the neck and middle, but I'm thinking Antiquity II Surfers, Antiquity Texas Hots or APS-2's. Just got some of those in too!

Re: Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

This has come up before, and although I can't recall who did it, one of the forum fellows did mount a tele bridge in the strat bridge cavity. It was routed for humbucker, and I think he drilled a few holes in the pickguard to accommodate the 3 hole mounting configuration of the tele pickup. The length of the tele pickup bobbin did fit through the strat pickguard with no mods, except different screws.

Twangbanger and a hardtail strat will be the best.

You'd best acheive tele tone with a hardtail, and no trem. Part of the tele tone and twang is that big ol' bridge plate.

Good luck!

Lew, will the neck pup fit without mods, or is it actually a bit longer? I can't quite remember to tell ya the truth (don't own a tele type)? Thanks.

A Tele neck pickup would fit in the body rout just fine but you'd need a differant pickguard to accomodate the smaller Tele neck pickup.

Personally, I'd never put a Tele neck pickup in a Strat. A Tele bridge pickup sure! But a Tele neck pickup doesn't really sound as good, to me, as a nice Strat neck pickup.

Kinda weak and muffled by comparism...IMO.

As a matter of fact, I'm thinking about putting a Strat Antiquity Surfer or APS-2 in my Tele's neck pickup spot!

I'm wondering though if one would sound good in the middle position though, maybe without the cover ... Lew will it fit lengthwise though in a strat pickguard is my question ... I can't remember if it's slightly longer than a strat.

Re: Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

No, they're not longer.

Steve Morse used to have a Tele neck pickup in the middle of his FrankenTele...

I'm not sure what he's got in his Ernie Ball signature guitar...something similar I think.

Re: Will Duncan Tele pickups fit a Strat?

If you take the cover off your Tele neck pickup, it's going to sound VERY similar to a Strat pickup (at least mine does). The only bad thing about this is that sometimes when I'm playing hard the high e string will get caught under the bobbin. :smack:

Sorry, I meant to type Tele bridge pickup mounts different than a Strat bridge pickup... :smack:

off topic, but do you have any info on the exact setup electronically of Steve Morse's original rig as far as the pups, I some of them were in phase and some out of phase ... any ideas on that, and how the controls were laid out?

thats where duct tape comes in my friend

put some on the side of the pickup where the high e is and you'll be fine

Vai does it on his guitars since if he does a divebomb sometimes the E gets stuck

i found that with a wolfie i tried also, so if i ever afford one i'd do that too

dunno if you'd like the look though - could try n find some clear cellotape or something that wouldnt be as obvious
