Wiring a 4 conductor and a 2 conductor humbucker together

I cannot find a diagram that shows how a 4 conductor pickup and a 2 conductor pickup would look matched up. Im looking for a standard les paul wiring, 2 volumes, 2 tones, 3 way toggle and obviously one 4 conductor humbucker (neck) and one 2 conductor humbucker (bridge). Can anyone PLEASE help me out. I cant find anything.

I'm not understanding the problem.

There are several diagrams that show how to connect a 2-conductor pickup, and several that show how to connect a 4-conductor, as well as plenty of Les Paul diagrams.

its not very complicated. just wire each as the diagram suggests for that type of pup

Re: Wiring a 4 conductor and a 2 conductor humbucker together

My confusion is that I am not sure if I need to ground the two tone pots together. The diagram I found for coil splitting show that you do, but its for coil splitting both pups. I haven't found one that shows just one coil split. The diagram for the 2 conductor does not have the two tones grounded together. Forgive me if that doesn't make a difference but I just want to be sure.

All pots have a ground connection on them. It travels between the casings like a horseshoe.

Re: Wiring a 4 conductor and a 2 conductor humbucker together

While all pots do not have to be connected via ground wire to each other, they do all have to be connected to one of the 3 primary ground points: bridge, jack, and controls.

However, those 3 ground points must contact the same point, no matter where that point is (on the pot, on the jack, or at the bridge).

The problem is with 4 pots and a bridge and a jack with their own ground wires all converging at the same point, it's messy. Not to mention every time you add another ground wire to the pile, one pops loose. You can strip and twist them all into a giant metal dreadlock smothered in solder, but there's a high chance the solder won't coat all the wires well, so it's just easier and cleaner to connect all the pots to each other, then have the bridge and jack grounds connected to the back of separate pots. That way you know each one has a good connection, and that everything's part of the ground system.

Re: Wiring a 4 conductor and a 2 conductor humbucker together

Well, I have everything wired correctly and it is all technically working except the volume pot on the neck is giving me slight issues. The coil split works but when I roll down the actual volume, it stops decreasing around 5-6 and then never cuts out completely. Same effect on full bumbucker or coil split, doesn't matter the setting. Eveything else is fine and it's wired correctly. Any ideas?

Re: Wiring a 4 conductor and a 2 conductor humbucker together

Grounding on the vol pot might be a dodgey joint. The 3rd tab on the pot is usually bent back and grounded to the casing, which is the common ground.
