Have you looked at the Duncan wiring diagrams on this website? They have a pretty extensive collection of them for just about anything you can think of.

Phase is done with only a hot & a ground, so it works for single coils and single-lead HB's too. If you have a 4-lead HB, once you do the phase part, you still have unconnected two wires left, which you can use for either coil-cut (push-pull) or spin-a-split (regular tone pot).

One of the best ways to familiarize yourself with guitar wiring is to go to Duncan's support page and click on the "Wiring Diagrams". Go down through and look at each one. Patterns will emerge.
In fact, if you can, right-click and save each one to a folder on your computer. Then use your favorite graphics viewer to easily scan up and down through them all. You'll see, quickly, how things are done.

I just looked at some of the wiring diagrams and then opened my guitar, and there were a few cables, which where soldered at a totally different place than the diagrams indicated. That may perhaps explain the bad working pups en toneknob (a really long time I thought that my jazz lacked output and sounded really weak, but some day during the last week or so, I think the signal came correctly through, and now the jazz is sounding perfect). that 's also the reason why I want to see where the problem is, since the jazz doesn't always sound like it is supposed to.
If I 'd take picture of the wiring, could you help me out with the wires which are soldered differently?
