Wiring Help: Out of Phase/Series & split HBs

I just got my 4 conductor Seths; and push pull tone pots so I'm ready for some soldering!

Can I do this with just two push pulls? Guitar is an ES-335 type.

Push pull 1) Neck & Bridge Out of phase and in Series

Push pull 2) Neck & Bridge split so I can use 3-way to select split Neck, split N+B, Split B.

If not, what are my options?

Thanks.

You can do phase and series with one push-pull. I'll post a diagram as soon as I get home.

In the mean-time, hermetico can try to figure out what I'm talking about. :)

Re: Wiring Help: Out of Phase/Series & split HBs

I didn't see anything about parallel. I thought he just wanted to go series and out-of-phase, which would be like this:

series-phase.png

Notice, I'm showing singles here, but the wiring's the same for humbuckers. Just use black for "plus" and green for "negative". When the push-pull is pulled, the neck is added in series and out-of-phase. The 3-way will select between bridge and series/phase. (Series/phase when "neck" selected.)

Make sense?

Edit: Ok, I think I see what you mean by parallel. With the push-pull down, the pups are in parallel. Up, is series/reverse-phase.

Very nice hermetico. Thanks for filling in the blanks. We make a great team. ;)

WOW! You guys are are good. Nice diagrams. Thanks Hermetico & Artie. I'll sit down tomorrow and try to digest this. This shoud give a good variety without going to a rotary switch or the full JP wiring. I'm assuming I can substitute the "serial" vol push-pull for the other tone push-pull. I'd prefer to have the push-pulls only on the tone controls; and reserve the volume puts for higher qual stuff.

I'll just need to remember to switch to the neck pup for the OOP/series mode. I think the "split" mode will be quite cool for brighter jangly stuff. I can just step on my booster to even out the volume drop.

Thanks

No problem, hermetico. The guitar is an Ibanez AS83-VLS. It is setup like a typical ES335. Two volumes, two tones & one 3-way. It's a great value guitar, similar in size to the ES339.

Artie, Seymour should hire you as the offical forum wiring guru.

(I'm quite sure that this is reciprocal )

Hey, InvaderMaster, do you have any solution for the Independant controls issue that I am describing in post #13?

When you say independent controls are you talking about the volumes acting independently?

Re: Wiring Help: Out of Phase/Series & split HBs

I tried to draw the scheme with independant controls for pickups, reaching to this:

But, I am suspecting that it wouldn't work when series switch is UP, due to out-of-phasing, because left and middle lug of Neck volume are like in a loop.
Artie, do you see some solution for that?

In the meanwhile, I will try it with dependant controls.

Hey hermetico. I've been tied up lately with mucho work; but I'm back on the guitar warpath.

What do you see as the limitation? Because I would really like the volumes independant. Is it the combination of OOP & series? I wonder if a more workable solution would be to wire it for only OOP; and I can step on a boost pedal to accomodate for the volume drop. Does that make what I'm trying to do possible?

Assuming the bridge tone is only putting the pups out of phase, is it possible to have the 3 way toggle work this way?

SPL/SER/3-WAY -> combo
Dn/Dn/Neck -> Neck-HB
Dn/Dn/Middle -> Neck-HB (P) Bridge-HB
Dn/Dn/Bridge -> Bridge-HB

Dn/Up/Neck -> Neck-HB
Dn/Up/Middle -> Neck-HB-OOP (P) Bridge-HB
Dn/UP/Bridge -> Bridge-HB

Up/Dn/Neck -> Neck-IC
Up/Dn/Middle -> Neck-IC (P) Bridge-IC
Up/Dn/Bridge -> Bridge-IC

I'm not to worried about running split & OOP.
