Wiring issue in a HSS Strat

Yesterday I installed a Seymour Duncan JB Trembucker into my Fender Standard Stratocaster. I wired the pickup in like it said in the wiring diagram that came with it, but now the middle pickup won't work (i.e. it's really weak and quiet now). I followed Fender's diagram for the rest of the innards to make sure it was right for a Strat. Duncan's wiring guide had a different two-pot setup than I had and I was forced to use Fender's. Theoretically it should work the way it's wired (all three pickups wired correctly - the two single coils using Fender's and JB using Duncan's wiring guide) You can only hear either the bridge or neck pickup in the 2nd and 4th position. In the 3rd position, the middle pickup isn't usable.

I've heard this was because of a phasing issue, but I don't know how to properly wire the bridge pickup so that all work in parallel with the rest of the pickups (I guess that's the terminology) :?:

What I did was solder the black wire to the pickup selector switch where it should, and I guess it's worthy mentioning that all of the pots and switch selections work. Then after the black wire was soldered, I soldered the white and red wire together, taped them off and soldered the green and bare wire to the volume pot...

My guitar - 1 humbucker (bridge), 2 singles, 2 tone pots, 1 volume pot, 5-way pickup selector switch.

How do I correctly wire this humbucker so that my middle pickup works again?

Umm... Okay, well does anyone know how to properly phase a JB in an HSS Strat? I don't see any wiring diagrams on this site to do so.

Re: Wiring issue in a HSS Strat

I've done alot a HSS wiring in Strats and sometimes I've had to go back in and switch the green wire with the black. I would try that first.

Re: Wiring issue in a HSS Strat

I've heard also that I could try switching the hot wire with the ground. I think the black is the hot, and I'm guessing the green is (well one of the two maybe) a ground wire. I'll definitely try that as soon as possible. :)

Thats what I meant in my post......switch the hot with the ground, but leave the bare wire to the ground (now with the black) green now goes to the switch.

Good luck to you!

*edit* Rereading your post you may have more problems than just the humbuckers phase. Switching the hot and ground will only effect the position 2 (bridge and middle) Somethings funky with your middle pickup (or the switch) if its unusable by itself in position 3.........

Oh... Yeah... It seems like although I have the bridge pickup in... With the third position selected, it should work fine, but it doesn't. I can't wrap my head around why the middle pickup won't work on it's own or with the other two especially considering how it doesn't come in contact with the bridge pickup anywhere at all except the master volume, which is a ground anyway. I dunno :dot:
