Wiring options....

Just bought a (well) used 80's Ibanez Blazer from the pawnshop (for $265, good deal in aus). Has 2 humbuckers, Strat styled body + neck (bolt on) with tele bridge on it. Mahogany body, maple neck and fingerboard. Dunno about the pickups - i think they are stock though.

I intend to use a superswitch for it.......but am unsure what i wanna do with it!
Also it has a phase switch which only works when the pickup selector is in the middle position.....will probably take that out....but the switch can be used if you have any suggestions....

My thoughts for the superswitch were:

1. Neck hum
2. Neck split
3. Both hums together
4. Outside coils in series
5. Bridge hum

What would YOU choose for my superswitch? ALSO.....am i able to run individual volumes for each humbucker? + a master tone (actually, might put the tone where the phase switch is atm.

Thanking artie in advance for the schematic :fing2:

Re: Wiring options....

Pretty much what you've got there actually, except if it were possible I'd go for the two outer coils in parallel where you've got the split 'bucker. I'd junk the phase (polarity) switch or perhaps use it to supplement the superswitch in some way; maybe a series/parallel switch for one of the humbuckers, something like that.

I'll think up a schematic tomorrow but I'm betting artie'll beat me to it again!:D

Not necessarily. ;) I've been slowing down a bit lately. Have at it.

Actually, I started a new job at work. Doing more optics stuff than electronic, and I spend more of my day on my feet. Sometimes I'm just a wee bit more tired at the end of a day. At least 'til I get used to it.

I know how that feels.

I'm up at 5.30 every morning; I have a 20 min walk to the station then it's about a 2hour train journey which is the only time I get to sit down until 18.20 as i don't have a chair in my workshop (well I do but I use it to stack stuff on it) so i'm on my feet for about 9 hours every day... *sighs*

Re: Wiring options....

Orrite, change of plans......I've decided to go ALL OUT on the switching!....Its a really nice sounding guitar when unplugged and i wanna make the most of her!

I'm gunna put 2 on/on/on miniswitches in for each of the 2 humbuckers- series, split or parrallel. - I've got this part sorted, doesnt look too difficult

Then the two signals are going to go to the superswitch where the positions will be

1. Neck on its own
2. Neck and bridge in series
3. Neck and bridge in parallel
4. Neck and bridge out of phase in series (would this sound any good?...may as well throw it in!)
5. Bridge alone

wire me up that one, guru's! :bigok:

One other question......will all these switches catch any extra noise?....i plan on sheilding it really well.

Ps. Octavedoctor - did you get some pics of your shielded guitar cavities? Am keen on having a gander :)

Re: Wiring options....

And is it just me, or are the series/parallel and the series/split/parallel schematics exactly the same (except one is obviously a 2 way switch and one is a 3 way)

Re: Wiring options....

Alrighty, i found the superswitch part of my wiring scheme:

Thanks for nothing guys! just kidding. Hope it works.

Re: Wiring options....

besure that you properly isolate the cover of the neck pup for grounding

also, be sure that the switch will fit in the cavity ... i had to abandon my dreams of a superswitch in my ibanez when i found that the cavity is too shallow (skinny guitar)

good luck
