Wiring up an Ibanez, need some help...

I just got hold of my New 7's for my Ibanez and promptly took out the old pickups (very promptly, I might add ), and started looking for a schematic for the new ones.

The only problem is, Ibanez have some sort of freaky 5 way swith that is completely different to the ones on every schematic I can find at the DiMarzio site.

On the switch there are 8 lugs, all in a row, all the schematics have 2 rows of 5 or similar.

On the 5 way it should be:

1) Bridge HB Series
2) Slug coil bridge HB/Screw coil neck HB in Parallel
3) Bridge & Neck HB Parallel
4) Neck HB Parallel
5) Neck HB Series

I have a couple of schematics from Ibanez but I need to figure out their colours in relation to DiMarzio before I can use it.

Can anybody help me figure this out?

All I need is either the colour translation, or a schematic that shows how to wire the Dimarzios up to that weird switch.

yup that's the correct ibanez 5-way layout ... i think it's called a YB-50 switch .. or maybe YM-50 ... no matter the name, that is the one

Rinse; I'll doodle up a few things, but I don't really think you can get that combination of options with an ordinary 5-way. The Ibby 5-way is, more or less, standard, electrically, just shaped weird.

I'll see what I can come up with, plus some otions.

Ok no probs thanks a load!

The wiring above is the std Ibanez wiring (the screw coil/slug coill one may have just been one coil though), I just don't know what to connect to where to get the end result

do you want it to function exactly as it did with the stock pups, only with the SD pups?

or are you looking for something different?

that schematic is odd because it shows a bridge pickup with only 2 wires (plus ground) ... i am not sure how you can split a coil on a pup with only 2 wires ... seems impossible to me .. but i'll stare at it some more

Actually, they're doing there the same thing that Peavey does. The three wires are ground, hot, and then a tap of the junction of the two coils. Its the same as them connecting the red and white inside the pickup, then bringing that connection out. So, you can split them, but it would be difficult to parallel them.

That's what I thought, but that was the old pup's... new ones are dimarzios, they have red, white, black & bare, AFAIK red is hot, green is ground, that's all I know though

The switch positions above was from the ibanez site in the description for a rg7620, which is what these pups came from, although the positions on the schematic is slightly different (only one of the screw/slug coils is different)

I can't find anything to tell me what wire to connect to what lug for series etc. either which is a pain...

I would like it to be wired the same, but I'd be happy if I can get a noise from all of the positions.

I just got an email from the Dimarzio tech as I had a few questions about their pickups looking for replacements for the new Ibanez S470DX I have coming.

I was looking at putting a hum cancelling single coil in the middle position along with 2 new humbuckers (H-S-H) and his response was

"The latest version of the S470 doesn’t have the type of 5-way switch that will permit both a humcancelling pickup in the middle and still create a good Strat sound in the 2 & 4 positions. There are several approaches, but you might do best with a ‘true’ single-coil in the middle, such as a reverse-polarity Blue Velvet(DP170S). See attached diagram"

The diagram he sent me was just like the one rinse master posted ( I can't seem to post the image)

Would this be the case (no hum cancelling single coils) with Duncan pups as well? I don't know anything about wiring, I just play (quite badly I might add)

does anyone have a version of Ibanez wiring with seymour duncan JB color code??? on the same switch for an s470 which is the YM-50 or whatever its called. thanks
