Wood Guitar Stand project (HUGE PICS)

After i cleaned my room the other day, i realized the guitar stands take up too much space, so i decided to make this rack that could hold 4-5 guitars.

I searched for DIY guitar racks and found various designs using PVC pipes. Screw PVC pipes! Tone is in the wood. hahaha. I used 3/4'' ply for this one.

I based it from this: http://www.eledar.net/Music/GuitarStand/index.htm

I did some modifications to it (measurements, angles, etc.). Also, no power tools were used. The good old hand saw, chisel, 2x2 wrapped with sandpaper as sanding block, hammer, nails and good old fashioned wood glue.

Anywho, pics from Day 1 April 21,2011.

Day 2 April 22, 2011

I woke up early to sand the sides. I did the neck rest by using a chisel and a saw.

Great job, but how many dead bodies you got buried out in that back there? (photo 2)

You, my friend, are a frickin' genious. How's the weight on that thing?

BTW, if I were you, id get something spongy or at least thick felt to cover the places were the guitars connect. Wouldn't wannna scratch your babies.

Thank you sir. Haha. There's none that I know of. The sand was used for reconstructing our dormitory. Family business.

Thanks man! It is pretty lightweight. My friend's bass guitar is heavier than it. It's 3/4'' plywood, not soild. When I get the chance to buy solid wood, i'll make another one.

Yes, I inted to put foam covered with cloth or leather for the bottom rest. Then rubber for the part where the neck rests.

Day 3 update. It came out a bit darker than yesterday but I still did a 2nd coat of the wood stain.

Nice dark walnut... :-D

Are you going to put any type of padding or whatever where the bodies sit and the necks rest?

Re: Wood Guitar Stand project (HUGE PICS)

Be careful on the rubber. If you've got any guitars with nitro finish, it'll have a good chance of reacting and leaving marks on the neck. I'd recommend a thick felt.
