Woohoo! New strat coming! Which pups should I install?

I just ordered a red SX Strat copy. I want to put some Seymour Duncans in it. So far, my favorite 2 guitars (both Ibanez!) have DiMarzio's in them (Tone Zone, PAF Pro, Super Distortion, Blue Velvets) and I am in LOVE with their tone. I want to give SD's another chance with this strat though. The SD pups I know I like are the Duncan Distortion (bridge of my Schecter) and '59 (neck of my Schecter). Soo, here's what I've been looking at and keep in mind these will be used for Iron Maiden, Rhoads, Dio, etc. (Pretty much all the non-cheesy 80's metal!)

1. Lil' Screamin' Demon (Bridge) and Lil' '59s in the neck/mid
2. Classic Stack in bridge and '59s in neck/mid

Well, you can see I'm pretty set on putting 59's in the neck and mid positions. Would have 3x single-coil sized humbuckers still sound good if they were all split for a more stratty style sound? My main needs are for:
metal: Bridge humbucker, and neck humbucker
Everything else: Single-coil notce position sounds (positions 2&4 on a traditional strat)

i dont know, but congrats on the new axe.

why dont you try something like the custom, or go crazy and put another DD in there!! :D

what about a JB jr?

Biu,

i myself just got an SX ST57 a week ago, and took a look at the pickguard assembly just last night. Surprisingly, the pickup cavity is routed s-s-s.

You didn't say what model SX strat copy you ordered, but you might want to hold off ordering pickups until you can take a look at the routing on your guitar. If you're lucky, yours may be routed h-s-h and you can then order full-sized SD humbuckers....

Since you'll be swapping pickups, you may as well also change the small pots and switch while you are at it.

Other than changing the pups too, I may probably try to sand off some of the lacquer (or is it poly?) on the neck so it won't feel so sticky.

Have fun!

For the sounds your looking for I would go with a Hot Rails in the bridge position. lil 59's in the neck/mid position would be great, and you could wire it up so that they are split in the notch positions.

Hot Rail in the bridge is the way to go, bro. Lil59 and Jb jr in the neck and mid or Hot Rail and 2 Cool Rails.

vegetablejoe, I got the SX SST57 (Red strat, maple neck).

I'm going for an S-S-S configuration because all 3 of my other guitars are H-H and 1 is H-S-S, so single-sized humbuckers is what I'm gonna put in there.

I'll definitely check out some Hot Rails. I may need some help finding a cheap used one though, because I really can't afford a new one at all:2:

So the Screamin' Demon wouldn't be good at all:confused: ?

Oh, I will be playing this through my 5150 and Carvin X-60A w/ Boss Drive-Zone, so there will a lot of distortion.

I think a Demon would be fine for this. My ex-bandmate used a lil demon in his strat (and a full size demon in a LP). I actually tried it through my 5150 and JCM 800 setup and it rocked. Not as 'in your face' as my strat with hot rails, but if you're looking for meaty tone, the Demon will do it.

But my favorite is still the Hot Rails for neck and bridge.
