need some opinions if u guys would refinish ur guitar if it looked like this?
Its a MIM strat frm '96 tt i juz got hold of, i like the sound of it but im having a hard time deciding if i should refinish it or leave it this way... it looks pretty beat up for a 9 yr old strat :smack:

Singapore...but i suppose a rough estimate in USD would be great. at least I knw how much i need to save up roughly

No man. leave it as it is. Nothing wrong with a few scratches. The guitars I use for gigs all look beat up. I kinda like it like that.

I think there's nothing cool/mojoish or whatever about damaged finsihes.. If I were you I'll get it refinished.. in another color

I would say thats fine. I'd keep it - theres nothing wrong with a newly finished guitar, and theres nothing wrong with a reliced guitar.

But, a guitar gets mojo points when it is beat up by your own doings, and it got that way through "blood sweat and tears". It's another topic, I know, but I feel like relicing guitars by a one-day process is a bit tacky.

Or if anything, just sand it down with 0000 steel wool to take the gloss & roughness of the dings off it. Then it'll age nicely! :13:

Personally, I'd refinish it. But you have to ask yourself if you'd be willing to give up the guitar for a while until the work is done. And the cost of the finish also depends on what kind of finish you go with. Nitro is more expensive but usually a better finish.

uh the neck kinda feels sticky and doesnt feel the way a new strat feels like... is this normal ? and how do i remove tt sticky feel?

I'm voting for you to keep it just the way it is! Dude, they're so right about the strat mojo.....I'm absolutely dying for my strat to be beat up a little, but I'm not gonna just do it intentionally It's gotta get that way naturally. and that finish is yellowing very nicely, getting a nice cream shade. That's why I like white finishes, the way they age. Also, mexican strats are notorious for having THE HARDEST TO REMOVE finish on guitars. So depending on the guy who does it, may charge just a little bit extra for having to remove that freakin finish. I'd say leave it..it's going to cost you about the same as a new mexican strat to refinish it

Again, some 0000 steel wool & then a little lemon or tung oil & you'll be set!

it would cost more to refinish than you paid for the guitar. A MIM is not worth it. If anything, I would take some fine sandpaper or steel wool and buff down the bumpies where it's chipped and such so there's a smooth transition from paint to bare wood.
