The real question would be "would you bother refinishing a Mexican Strat?" to which the answer is "No."

I'm not bagging on the guitar - I've seen some surprisingly nice MIM Fenders, but a refinish would probably cost you as much, if not more, than the guitar did. A waste of money IMO.

I would not refinish it. Anyway, I really dislike the girly-panty colour on a guitar, so I would remove it from the whole body and leave it naked

Aside from joke, I'd remove the paint and lick on some wood conditioner / clear lacquer for some prevention. I used some wooden floor lacquer for saving an old Hohner from destruction a decade ago. $20 investment.

I love beat up strats! I bought my 1988 USA Standard because it was beat up.... The Inca Silver finnish has turned greenish and there is marks on the body..... the old owner had smoked a million smokes around it and it needed a fret dress baddly.... I ended up using soap and water to clean the dirt off it..... It was that dirty! You can still smell the smoke sometimes when you open the case. The screws for the bridge saddles were rusted tight and i had to drill some of them out even after they soaked in oil for a night..... There is a number on the back plate that was done by a Toronto store..... this strat at one time had been a rental guitar for the L&M guitar chain in Toronto..... It has been refreted with 6100 and i took the EMG 81's out of it that the past owner had in it and put in a Duncan JB and Fender single coils. It looks rough and like a real Relic but that is kind of why i like it...... An old beat up strat is what a lot of players are looking for. That guitar sounds better and feels better then my other strats that are like new......

Vintage White!!!! My fav color on strats. Yeah. Good color. I would leave it because it looks totally played and all vintage and stuff

keep it looking beater, then you wont worry about a little scratch when gigging it. I got stressed out at first, but then I realised, ah f'uck it, its all part of the gigging life.

Personally, I HATE that colour.. it looks almost like skin colour, and I would NEVER put that on a guitar.

Or if anything, just sand it down with 0000 steel wool to take the gloss & roughness of the dings off it. Then it'll age nicely! :13:

I wouldn't. I like those white, vintage-looking finishes. And that spot on the bottom just makes it look older.

it would cost more to refinish than you paid for the guitar. A MIM is not worth it. If anything, I would take some fine sandpaper or steel wool and buff down the bumpies where it's chipped and such so there's a smooth transition from paint to bare wood.

+1 Maybe use something to seal the bare wood.

Does any know if Dan Erlewine's tip for using cyanoacrylic glues with a retarder would work to seal an area that big?

if it was me, i wouldnt.
if you want go ahead but its gonna cost anywhere from US $250-$500 to get it refinished

Idk about you but that reminds me strongly of grunge guitars...beat up and pretty good at playing....keep it!
