Would you ever put a JB in the neck?

It would be cool for someone to order a Custom Shop JB Jr. Neck in a full-size humbucker presentation.

I'm curious. Do you mean an actual JB Jr, under a humbucker cover? Or a full fledged custom rewind, to create a JB neck pup, voiced like the JB Jr?

Either could be cool.

P.S. Still haven't heard back from the guy to know what the actual GC conversation was.

I meant a full-on separate wind to create a JB neck pickup, but now that you mention it, an actual JB Jr. under a humbucker cover doesn't sound so bad either. I think they'd be more willing to make the former, though.

I think if you asked them, they'd most likely suggest the Jazz.

Maybe the Jazz should have been named the JB neck? Or if they released something very very similar to the Jazz and call it the JB neck, then the confusion, if there is any, wouldn't be there.

Then again, the Jazz set I have, in my Cort, is one of my favorite sets. I almost always play it with both pups on. Sweet, clean, clear. They show up any mistake you make. Good for practice. Good for setting your amp settings.

seymour actually used plenty of things. i played up in montreal with him many years ago and he had a telegib type thing and i believe there were antiquities in there

I have a cool 59n/Jazz n hybrid paired with a JB bridge. I wonder why they don't just make that a production model? At the very least I would think it could be a shop floor custom.
I'd say it't the best neck pickup that I have.

This is one of those funny things about pickup winds. They're both A5 mags, and only a few hundred ohms difference in DCR. But while the 59n is warm and smooth, maybe a bit bass heavy, the Jazz neck is sharp and snappy. Hi-fi, so to speak.

I bet a 59n/JAZZn hybrid, is sweet.

Which coils did you do for each?

I'm sure if I described what I want out of a JB neck, they'd be down for it. I don't think they offer many pickups in the production line that do what I want. It's either clean, open neck pickups, or blistering hot screamers, I feel. They don't really have anything like the JB Jr. Neck in full humbucker format, for example, because, as far as I know, they do have a "Jazz Jr." that's supposed to be the Cool Rails, no?

That being said, I'm not really going to order one. I'm just daydreaming, honestly.

I honestly find the '59N all that smooth in the grand scheme of things. Not to say I don't kinda like it. And you're right, it is warmer and smoother than the Jazz, but that's not saying much, as the Jazz is about as bright and snappy as traditional full-size neck humbuckers get, IME. Almost anything I can think of is going to be warmer and smother, unless you start going un-traditional like the Humbucker from Hell or the Erick Johnsons.

I'm not saying they're not distinct from one another, but I find the Jazz and the '59 kind of in the same ballpark of neck pickups for me.

the cool rails is kinda a jazz jr, i agree. great pups!

The Cool Rails is one of the great unsung heroes of the Duncan line. I don't know why it doesn't get more attention around here.

I won't post my Cool Rails track again. :)

Not sure, got it off of someone on the forum. Masta C perhaps? I think that it was an OEM in possibly an LTD. It might be a 59n screw coil paired with the Jazz n slug coil.
It's clear but not shrill. Works great in my Jackson with the screw on neck.

I had a PRS CE22 where every neck pickup I tried was way underpowered compared to the Dragon I bridge pickup. I eventually tried a JB in the neck. The volume balance was just right and the pickup sounded great. Tried it in a couple other guitars over years and it sounded terrible.

Well I tried my JB in the neck of my PRS S2 Standard. Lots of juice, lots of mids, lots of highs, really lots of *everything*.
