Yes! 20 watts could produce 110 decibells-----in a room the size of a lounge room ,so can a 20 watt car stereo in a car!The laws of physics in electronics says 20 watts would not be able to drive enough speakers to push the S.P.L. to produce a volume of 110 DB in an area much larger than a lounge room;even less capable of doing so in an open area[outside]ModestCargo;I don,t presume anything,you might be able to hear yourelf fine ;but i doubt anyone else can.And no wonder it cracks up if you turn it up too loud!
Jeremy,Is that clubs the size of lounge rooms ,full of old fux like me?[55]and Neil Diamond covers??or "LIMP ZEPPELIN" covers????
I do a great version of "heavy metal acoustic" too!
My friend i linked to;certainly didn,t play with Low wattage amps,even in the early days,before the band took off. they were playing small Pubs and similar gigs.And they played what i,d call "lightweight R&R"
Back in the 60,s the average amps we used then were 60 watters with twin 12,s cabinets.They were only good for "parties and small halls" the bigger band s all used on average, 100 watters.And in those days ,no one miked up to PA,s.
The headbanger band i mixed in the late 90,s used 2 marshall 100,s ;the bass
a 160-180 watt thing.[forgotten the brand]in small pubs, and they really didn,t sound quite loud enough without a bit of clever sound re-inforcement by me.
My own objectives were always Loud and Clear;
and i,ve a recording "trying to blow up a practise amp"around a 20 watt job,that would have been lucky to drown out the stereo in a lounge room.I might post a bit of it over at my MYSpace place; It,s overdriven like crap and i didn,t manage to kill it;Bugger eh!?
Today there is an endless array of "TOY AMPS" by Marshall and others,but that,s what they are "TOY AMPS" for "legends of the lounge room " and " legends in their own mind":kabong:

Gearjonser[mr kelly] nice gear!yum!

i use my deluxe for lots of gigs, if im outdoors ill run it thru a closed back 2x12 cab rather than the internal speaker. its not a do all amp but if you want to run the volume at 6 or higher to get the tubes working its a great club amp. very few clubs will let you pin even a 50w amp

The problem is that when you pin a 50 watt amp in a bar these days you don't get invited back and the owner is reminded again why he likes karaoke and DJ's and how he needs to just not bother having bands at all anymore because they're more trouble than they're worth.

It's a different world than the 1970's. Bands are no longer the focus of all the attention in the bar.

It amazes me that some haven't realized this yet....

Yes ,people do realise the trends.IN OZ;we went through all the anti"anything louder than a pindrop" stalwarts in the 80,s[which shut a lot of suburban venues down] and then in the 90,s they replaced bands with gambling machines ;which meant the younger generation had nowhere to go.Bands are making a resurgence here[in venues,pubs].I used to live in Melbourne Aust.which all through the seventies and into the late 80,s; had one of the highest "per capita of population" live entertainment[mainly bands] in the world.As i said earlier, i mixed a head banger band in the late 90,s;did the same in the mid to late 80,s.Such venues are still round and so are such bands. marketing trends come and go ,but there,s always "LOUD R&R" some where!!AS "guitar bands" are always round and will never die;as "trends do".

Of course I put my amp through the PA- it was just a stage monitor.
