Yamaha FG720s or FG730s?

BloodRose

Professional Scapegoat
im needing to get an accoustic for my daughter and am looking at these two models. 720 is mahog back and 730 has rosewood. do you think it would really make much dif? Anyone have experience with either? Ive played the 700s and its a decent player, but I thought Id try to upgrade alil for her as she is really doing well and will be taking a guitar class in school this year.

thanks

For the money both a good guitars,I've had a 730 for years and love it upgraded to a bone nut and saddle sounds great.

me too. i've had my 730 for two years now and still adore that guitar. it is so good and for less than $300 now that they quit making it.

the 730 has a fuller, richer sound than the 720. the 720 would rock with someone that can play lead because it has that brighter sound while the 730 has the warmth, although my friend who plays like it's his job, can make my 730 sound very nice when playing lead.

definately get one of them, but i lean toward the 730. just sound better to me.

thats a huge value. i have read that the 730 is a blatant rip off of martin's d28. just with lower grade woods. but the craftsmanship on mine is really good and the guitar has a great sound and near perfect intonation. just an incredible value in a guitar.

Re: Yamaha FG720s or FG730s?

I have an old 1974 Yamaha FG that out-Martins a Martin.

It has a rosewood back. And sounds ridiculous.

lucky you. i happen to be a huge yamaha devotee, and was born in '74. i would love to have that guitar.

went to GC and miraculously, they had both.. They have only ever has the FG700s in stock.. So I played both and the 730 sounded dark and the 720 was brighter but had some plunky character. I went off the board and got a breedlove for her . it was in between in tone and played nice
