Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

wixomwhat

I'm not a huge Yngwie fan and I dont own any of his cd's or anything but I like his tone in some of his videos i've seen.

This DOD signature pedal seems like it might be right for me + it's only $40 at MF but I cant find any sound clips anywhere so I'm wondering If any of you have any experience with it?

How does it sound with humbuckers?

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

well ive never heard or tried this pedal, but there is a reason that it is $40. i bought the DOD grunge for $40, and it was good.... while i was tone deaf. as soon as i got an ear for tone i realized it was crappy. so im guessing that the same applies for this pedal. i know that its used by the great YM, but im guessing its not gona be that great of a pedal.

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

For the most part, DOD certainly sucks. The 250 (what the Yngwie pedal is based on) and, to a lesser extent (arguably), the 440 envelope filter are the only pedals worth looking at.

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

Well, I used to have the 250 and it was good with a tube amp, thickens the single notes a lot but not good at all for rhythm (muddy). I read somewhere that the YM model is a little brighter than the 250 on which it is based.

I'd say it's probably a good pedal to get certain tones, but not the only overdrive you should have on your board. I know some people who use the 250 to boost their TS-9 with great success.

Yeah i have a SD-1 and Its kinda useless IMO.

But I think i'm using it wrong.

Right now i've got it se up like this---

Guitar--> SD-1---> Amp (clean channel)

should I be using the SD-1 with the Distortion channel?

I'm clueless please help me out here.

That depends on what kind of sound you're looking for, but the simple answer is "yes."

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

yngwies tone is that of good old fashioned strats plugged into vintage marshalls with JJ tubes. add some fx and ur set tone wise.

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

If I recall correctly, one of the major guitar magazines reviewed that DOD and it didn't do so good. Maybe look into a Boss or something similar?

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

I think that that pedal is mainly designed to push a tube amp, in the case of YJM, Marshal Plexis, as he uses a clean type overdrive.

I would try an MXR micro amp first, I have one and I love it, it pushes my tubes into a nic e overdriven sound.

You can also use it in the FX loop and the nit becomes a MAJOR volume boost in addition to the slight gain it adds.

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

Yeah, this pedal is for overdriving the input of a tube amp. I tried one of them out, expecting some YJM tone, but it really didn't have crunch on it's own. It pretty much made the signal louder, more compressed IMO. I'd like to try one in front of a JCM 800, but I haven't had the chance...:)

The DOD Overdrive/Preamp 250 was my first overdrive pedal. I thought it was very nice. It worked really well in a SF Twin. I say spend the $40.00 and see for yourself.

Re: Yngwie Malmsteen Signature DOD pedal?

Yeah, just to stress this point,,, its NOT a distortion pedal. Its an overdrive for a tube-amp. It will sound like @ss through a solid state amp.

Not to sound condescending, but I notice alot of guys your age make that mistake alot here thinking its a hot distortion pedal or something cause its not. If you already have an SD-1 you'll have no need for this pedal.
