Yngwie Malstreem Strat

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I don't own an authentic Malmsteen strat, but I built one and it's my favorite guitar. I added my own specialties on it like:

graphiate nut
stainless steel frets
locking tuners
global mid cut/boost

The pickups (Dimarzio YJM neck and middle, HS3 bridge), American standard bridge, tuners, mid cut and boost(which is passive btw), I had laying around.
The candy apple red 92 strat body I bought off Ebay for $130, the neck I ordered from Warmoth $350. Total amount spent $480.00. It doesn't say Fender on the head stock but it plays like a dream and I saved around $900.00.

walt - what I wouldn't give for at least a go on that.

You say you built it? I love the finish :bigok:

I always wanted to build my own guitar but didn't know what I wanted to build or put together. Finally, when I couldn't stand the thought of not doing it yet, I did it. Not as hard as you may think. Why pay thousand or more for a signature guitar that may not be just right for you, when for a small fee you can get exactly what you want, the way you want it. I'll never buy another "brand name" guitar again.

Seeing that it is a glued neck (I believe, if not someone will correct me!), you would be taking a rather huge risk of it not being done correctly. If you want a scallop on any guitar that isn't a bolt on neck, take it to someone who has done it for a living and has done a large number of them...correctly! This will cost you a pretty penny in addition to the time you would be without your guitar, so what I would suggest would be to have the guitar re fretted with the largest frets you can get for your guitar. If you like the larger frets, then try scallopping your guitar or buying a bolt on neck guitar with a scallopped board.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I want a YJM strat, or Warmoth copy...... but more so because i'm a Blackmore fan and that model is closest to what Blackmore used.... I have a G3 video with some YJM on it and i hate his tone on that.... I have a his Marching Out album and it is pretty cool i guess, but the tone on that G3 disc is not meaty enough

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I had one-was a '97 model. At that time they had the vintage headstock and 2 pivot trem.

It was the best Strat I'd ever played until I picked up an American Series ash '02 model that is just incredible. No other strat I've ever played could even compete. I think with more Strat-like pickups, it would just be the bomb. I don't like the DiMarzio's in it very much...

I'd love to have one without the scalloping. The neck shape is just to die for and fit my hand like a glove. I've picked up a Malmsteen body on Ebay and am now waiting to snipe a nice reissue neck to go on it. A dealer in the St. Louis area said he thought I could get one from the custom shop 'unscalloped', but that was cost prohibitive.
