You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

Re: You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

Re: You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

yeah that guy sells this stuff all the time.. i don't get what makes these so special... and didn't Max die quite a while back

Re: You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

They're definitely not kidding. There's no way I'm spending 2K on anything that doesn't have a Gibson or Hamer logo on the headstock. That guitar won't have the best resale value....unless they find a way to put a jive ass fake Gibson logo on it. :laugh2:

Re: You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

I thought the guy that died did Slash's guitar anyway?

Who knows, who cares. Some idiot will snatch it up for silly money and make an equally silly guitar out of it that no player will likely ever use. Probably more valuable in the condition it is in if they provide Max documentation.

Re: You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

Max?

Well it is rumoured to be one of Slash's favorite LP's (which also apparently includes the 1960 LP that Joe Perry gave him) - It's certainly the most famous LP of Slash's collection ... from what I know I guess you could compare Max to Mr. Dumble ...

But whether it's worth it ... I guess you could compare it to the limited edition Jimmy Page signature LP's at 10k ... I personally would rather a cloud 9 LP or a 50's neck Classic.

But hey if you got the money - objects become status after a while.

Re: You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

H.D. and Wattage.....somebody already bought those. Those auctions have ended.

Re: You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

Did you scroll down all the way? The guy said a full Maxon(?) sells for about 15K!

That's something I always found funny about collectors items that happen to be guitars ...

It becomes merely an item of status and wealth which merely collects dust amongst the other paraphenilia whose only purpose is to show off afluence.

Re: You Have Gotta Be Freakin Kiddin Me

I would have never thought that an unfinished body and neck would be worth a sh1t.
I know the history of Max guitars, though, and had an opportunity in my early 20's to buy one, although it was WAY outta my league at $3000. If I found that guitar today, I'd jump on it, because the Max Les Pauls are considered the best Les Pauls ever made, even though they aren't Gibson. And, they DO sell for silly money, as this auction pretty much shows you. The time when Max was around was back during a time when Gibson was flattered by the quality, rather than suing him and shutting him down. He still didn't use his last name, for fear of Gibson's lawyers. That's why they're called Max. He was a rogue builder out of LA in the late 80's, who actually did build a few LP's for Slash and Joe Perry.

The guy who built famous LP Copy that Slash used on Appetite was not Max, it was a luthier named Chris Derrig. He died in the late 80's.

I believe Slash gave that 1960 LP back to Perry at his Birthday party a couple years back?

Very well put. People will by "sh*t if you coat it in chocolate" as my father used to say.

Hey, I have an unfinished guitar body made by Leo Fender himself that someone can take off my hands for $2,000. Just let me take this funny "Squire" neck that I put on it off before I sell. Rare buy!!!
;)

So you are saying you wouldn't spend 2k on something that was completely handbuilt by a Luthier because it didn't have Gibson or Hamer on the headstock?
