There are some really nice PRS guitars. On both ends of the scale, the Santana model is a good guitar - but not enough for me to buy one. If the money was quickly burning a huge sinkpit of a hole in my pants, I would order a Custom Shop 61 SG.

I would love to play the Zappa PRS to see if it could win me over. Visually I think it is a stunning guitar.

For those that don't like PRS - have you tried them with either the new (last 5 years or so) pickups or with Duncans? I found that the older pickups (80's to 2008) are just decent and that a set of duncans really opens them up tonally.

PRS dont make 335's.

That's exactly why I "had" to vote Gibson. My next purchase would be a hollowbody, and PRS doesnt' make them. So not a "cop out," but a "curve ball."

I have tried Duncans in my last 3 PRS. IME Pauls guitars sound best with his own pickups, though not necessarily the stock pickups. I do agree his more recent pickups are much better.

But my tone issues are fundamental to the build/design/finish, not the pickups.

I'd get an SG over most PRS guitars... And a PRS over most Les Pauls.

Hmmm close to what I think.The standard SG and 335s (and the lovely 339) are what I consider "as should be".For Les Paul style though I would seriously consider a Singlecut 245 especially the new models with the tailpiece.I like the "common" Prs shape and layout,but not enough to commit to a relationship if you know what I mean.

I would go with a PRS, they feel much better in my hands. I also think they respond to pickup swaps better

For three grand, I'd go PRS. As much as I love the 3 Gibsons I own, parting with $3k is a big deal, and I feel I'd get the most guitar for my money with PRS.

While those are great "semi-hollow" bodied guitars, they are not the big "hollowbody" guitars that I would want. Something with a floating bridge and trapeze tailpiece. Something like the ES-175.

I can't vote... I'd just buy the one that plays and sounds the best. I LOVE my 3 Gibsons but I can't say what I'd buy without playing first. If we're talking sight-unseen then I still don't know. I think PRS have a reputation of reliability and consistency so I might got with one...
