YOU Need A Les Paul

Re: YOU Need A Les Paul

I'm there. I own 2 Les Pauls (and 3 Strats FWIW, for the trolls)

This is my #1, since 1994, original owner, bone stock.

Strats are the most ergonomic design, but the best sounding Strats suffer from one thing that just doesn't work in music: noise.
I own more Fenders than Gibsons, but I use the Gibsons 10x more often.
My Gibsons sound more consistent; I can use them as back ups for each other.
My Fenders are all over the map. None of my Strats sounds similar. I have to play them differently and can't even get the same sounds out of them.

Re: YOU Need A Les Paul

Playing Jerry's Les Paul Signature. Which is actually a 335
Made me appreciate a short scale neck
I got my Florentine in an effort to capture that sound

While it's not the same sound

The scale and ease of play was addictive

Then I got my Hummingbird

Same scale and neck shape but still not the 335

So then I found the real Gibson in my signature
It's a Les Paul Studio Custom. Swamp ash body and maple neck. The controls are where i like them master tone and volume all bunched together with the switch.

Then , still in search of that archtop sound I got the Signature of my Vanity thread

Still not an archtop
I had hoped to put a piezo under the top and blend the sounds.

What I wanted, I discovered last night, was a Dean Shire

Dean SHIRE AQA Semi Hollow Body Electric Guitar With Piezo, Aqua https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WW832NW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_kcBsAbEWM81BF

I hope this will satiate me for my New Year's resolutions are no more guitar purchases for 2018

Should arrive Thursday

Re: YOU Need A Les Paul

I am an older guy. Just started playing like 3 years ago. I bought ALOT of music, love the guitar. From metal to cat guts, just something special about the guitar. I always had my faves and gotta say, NONE OF THEM PLAYED STRATS. I never realized it till I started playing, but I CAN NOT STAND ICE PICK SINGLE COILS. Its the tone, I just never have liked them. Nothing against the icons that played strats, I just never cared for the tones when cranked. The softer Hendrix is beautiful, but.... Nothing sounds like a Les Paul. Nothing is as beautiful as a Les Paul. And to those strat lovers out there, I respect your right to be WRONG LOL. Happy Safe New Years all, even the strat guys

The cavity under the pickguard of my US strat can hold a kilo of contraband. Sure it may kill tone but just imagine the rock star party it would bring.

Re: YOU Need A Les Paul

**** to be honest I think you need multiple Les Pauls

A strat can't do what a Les Paul can do........and vice-versa. I love my Les Paul.......and my strat and tele partscasters. It is good to cover many styles of tones with the guitars that do them.

Yeah, but you can get to it faster on a Les Paul. ;)
And if we're talking sheer volume, a Super 400 has you beat there too. I could hide a house cat in one of those, permitted the guitar was built around it.

Edit: To the OP, congratulations on getting almost 80 posts in the first 8 hours.

Re: YOU Need A Les Paul

Funny thing is that while I really like that classic LP tone, and have played few that felt and sounded great, I have never really wanted one.

There just something off-putting in the design for me. Good strat feels like a great piece of engineering. LP doesn't, it's just a piece of equipment.

And I agree as I feel a good Strat is needed (sonically) but I don’t enjoy playing them. I love how they look though.

No, Gordon Smith in the UK make a fine bespoke guitar akin to Gibsons.
They can build a replica at less than the price of an off the shelf Gibson.
