You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

Re: You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

it is a terrific looking guitar....as dumb as it sounds, and as rare as the guitar is...i think its worth the price tag....

then again, im not buying it

Re: You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

I'm mixed on the investment value -

It's a Martin, so it'll retain much of its value. And there's only 14, so it's got to be one of the rarest ones ever. So in 100 years, will it be remembered for its rarity?

I'm betting that, sadly, no. It won't be remembered. It'll be forgotten forever. In 100 years, somebody will list 1 of the 14 on eBay's future equivalent, and people will say "what the hell is this?" It might fetch a fair price, but taking inflation into account and its relative obscurity, I don't think it'll ever reach the status the price-tag would want you to believe.

Still d@mn cool though!

Re: You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

Wow, all that for the price of a second hand Ferrari :)

Re: You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

Errrm, ummmm, wow? The Fender 50th strat costs less than half that and will probably go up in value more, because as BigAl said about the Martin's status in 100 years "WTF is this?.

Re: You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

Well I'm not sure a 50s Reissue Strat will go up much either. Reissues don't tend to appreciate much over time.

Your best bet is to buy a real 50s Strat right now. That'll hold its value.

I'm working on buying the *ultimate* investment guitar at the moment. Just need $2,000 in 2 days. Easy, right?

Re: You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

Fire doesn't factor a wood's value when it's deciding which path to take. All guitars should be filled with asbestos...except for those played by any half-decent Hendrix tribute band.

Re: You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

I cant even look at martins in stores.. I dont understand this new trend in guitars costing half what I paid for my house...

Ditto. It's one thing when it's a vintage guitar that's rale and desirable, but new ones are a whole different thing. There's no way it costs that much to produce, so the prices aren't justified, imo. I understand they're only as valuable as someone is willing to pay, so as long as people pony up, we'll continue with this trend.

That is a really f'in nice martin tho. I'd love to play one. This one, imo, is the most ridiculous one Martin has done (that I've seen)

Re: You thought Gibson was expensive!? Pfft!

You know, that price is stupid. I would pay for a martin, but a model that is known and that people remember. I have no problem paying 4-5 grand for a martin, that is standard production, that I can play, and will sound great.
