Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

It was my '08 Gibson LP Standard into my Blackstar HT5, until I sold the LP because I couldn't get used to such a lightweight Les Paul. Bad move on my part.

my strat into my old deluxe reverb is just wonderful. nice and pretty and clean on 3, raunchy as hell on 8

Firebird Studio with BK pickups into Cornford Roadhouse 30w combo. I played a couple of gigs recently using a Boss OD3 but I've stopped using it - prefer the amp by itself.

The Strat through the JCM 800 was like a wrecking ball, the Jaguar with the OBL was like a chainsaw set on fire.

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

My '63 RI Tele and '71 Vibrolux Reverb. It's the epitome of that classic Fender shimmer. It took me years to realize that I'm a Fender amp guy because every time I'd go to Guitar Center I wouldn't plug into Vox, Mesa or Marshall.... I'd always go for a Deluxe Reverb and I loved how the character of whatever guitar I'd plug into it would be there in all it's glory. For me, it's all about the feel and response of an amp and there's an immediate response that I dig about the blackface/silverface stuff. The telecaster is my end-all bare bones 3 stellar sounds guitar and between the two I've wasted more hours these past 6 months than I'd care to admit.

Whatever I'm holding into whatever is heating the room. Changes with the weather and mood.

But my favorite no-nonsense setup is my Ibanez Roadstar into a Blues Jr. One pickup, one cable, one power cord, and ready to GTFO!

Can do everything from chiming cleans to OMFG MY AMP IS MELTING from the guitar's volume knob.

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

My MIM Superstrat with the P-Rails/Holy Grails going into my Fender Excelsior. I can bang on that all day.

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

Any guitar I currently own, with the next Marshall head I buy.

I posted pics, but they are showing up as links for me. If you are seeing that too, I don't know how to fix it. Sorry about that.

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

yeah I can't see pics sorry. Killer combos though the SG with the 57' twin sounds fun

SG into '57 Twin was a good discovery, just trying stuff in the studio. Believe it or not, the resulting tone actually sits on the fence between Bluesbreaker and later Marshall. The tube rectifiers lend a little of that sloppy bottom end distortion of the original JTM45 circuit, though being dual rectifier keeps it in check a bit. Then rolling off the bass a bit can bring it more towards a later Marshall sound. Between the guitar controls and the amp controls, I was impressed the variety of good sounds I got out of it.

very cool I have never played a twin but what you described sounds like a good sound for me I like that loose sputtery tube breakup

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

this sounds like fun aswell...

play out some jangly notes and switch to the dark circuit for some instant boom

I'm so busy these days, but the next time I have a chance to stop by a Guitar Center, I want to run a Baja Telecaster into a Vox AC30.

yeah I love how the AC30 dark circuit breaks up with fuzzes but on its own it sounds amazing aswell... I only tried an AC30 for the first time like 2 months ago.. I finally realize why a lot of my heroes (Thrice,QOTSA, O'Brother) use them
