Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

I've got a few different tones I'm really fond of.

My stock 2008 Son of a Gib Les Paul through my Marshall Vintage Modern combo sounds really spectacular. Same goes for my heavily modded MIM Strat with Alnico Pro II singlecoils and a Tone Zone (maybe not so much the TZ, as I'm not that into DiMarzio anymore).

But one of the most awesome sounds I know is my 1999 PRS Custom 22 on the coil tapped neck pickup through a beat to death early 70's silverface Super Reverb at the place where I used to rehearse and instruct guitar almost ten years ago, cranked to the max. That tone was the warmest, yet most scorching tone I've ever heard. I guess that's sort of why I don't like Engls. My favourite tones tend to come from amps that sound like they are at the verge of meltdown.

I'm the exact same way, I'm not a fan of those super tight metal tones... I like vintage amps cranked with boosts and fuzzes to really get a loose sputtery type sound

Any of the guitars that I own through my Marshall JCM 900 MkIII 2100.

Any of the guitars that I own through a Soldano SLO.

amazing setups here... the 52' Tele into the Deluxe sounds awesome!

When I was making the list I got myself bumbed out. The GAS got the better of me. Im glad for the setup I have now. I believe they are keepers.

One pic to say it all:

Though I just noticed my V-twin is not in that pic... but then again, phoenix has am EMG afterburner, so it till works this way just fine :D

For those that don`t know, the amp is a bone stock Marshall 2204 which suffered a broken headcase on tour almost 2 decades ago and was retrofitted into the shell of a czech copy in about 3 hours.... I still say it sounds better than before.:)

They're OK. I don't own any of their albums.

Oh I ask because Daniel Johns used Soldanos and JCM 900s ... I'm not a HUGE fan either but when I'm in the mood for heavy 90s rock I give Freak show a listen

Currently this Trinity 18 TMB really does the trick for me. Think: One channel old Marshall 18, the other, an 18 watt version of a Marshall JMP MkII. These days, whether it be jam sessions or actual gigs, I play smaller rooms. The black 1993 Hamer Special with BKP Blue Note 90s (low output) is the perfect guitar for the Trinity! It really is the best rig I've owned, albeit a low wattage rig.

Before that, my fave no pedals rig was a early model JCM 800 with a 4x12 Sonic cab, and a Strat with a hot bridge pup. I would have said a 1978 50 watt Hiwatt/4x12 Sunn cab, but I used an OD pedal with that...

Edit: What ErikH says about any guitar he owns through certain amps, yeah, that's true for me with the Trinity.
