I submit for starters:

Allan Holdsworth on Tony Williams' "Believe It" (SG Custom through Marshall half-stack).

Robert Fripp on King Crimson's "Starless & Bible Black" (especially the title cut, "Great Deceiver" and "Fracture". Les Paul Custom through fuzz pedal, wah and Hiwatt stack).

How about yours--------------

Cetainly Fripp on 'Starless', but I'd also say his tone on any Soundscape recording.

My Holdsworth choice is UK's In the Dead of Night, or Bruford's 'Hells Bells'...his clean chords are just impossible.

Steve Morse on Deep Purple's Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming

Steve Howe on Yes' Perpetual Change

Steve Hackett on Genesis' Firth of Fifth

Rithcie Blackmore on Rainbow's On Stage

Tony Iommi on Die Young or the whole Eternal Idol album

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

I love slash's tone on AFD and im listening to the Velvet Revolver album now and i love his tone there aswell, but AFD has some edge to its sound, dunno what. I suppose Dave Mustaine's tone on the Countdown to Extinction album aswell, Zakk on Sonic Brew (only BLS album i have heard!). Saying those, in the end id be here forever saying the tones i like, ill finish this with The Eagles 'Hotel California' :) sweet

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command (headphones are a must)
Rage Against the Machine - "War Within A Breath", the song isn't particularly amazing or complicated, but it got me back into Rage...Tom's tone, how the band interacts, just really cool stuff
Pixies - Trompe Le Monde, "Down to the Well" and "Letter to Memphis" from the Pixies Live at the BBC
Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals album,
John 5 (Marilyn Manson) - The Last Tour on Earth (I don't buy live albums usually, but this one is really, really good)
Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance, America's Volume Dealer
The Beatles - Abbey Road (Harrison's playing on that album is sick, sick, sick)
Incubus - Morning View, Make Yourself
Tool - Undertow, Lateralus
The White Stripes - De Stilj, White Blood Cells
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms, specifically "Renholder" and "The Hollow", plus that little solo break in "Magadalena" where the lead part climbs and climbs and climbs
Metallica - "The Outlaw Torn", "Bleeding Me", "Hate", "Fixxer"..amazing songs
