Your favourite “burst”?

I agree on the harshness of the cherry burst. Do you like this?

That's not too bad, if I had to go CSB that's the direction I'd go for. The flame is pretty close to what I like, the red isn't all the same color with enough washout into some orange, wide transition with a slow fade, and it's upper is closer to a perimeter burst than the harsh teardrops they spray sometimes.

As far as cherrybursts go that ones pretty nice IMO, and I don't typically like cherrybursts. Smooth transition without harsh lines or brutal teardrop.

The cherry's I dislike are more along the lines of a clownburst.

That said, I dig my Sunburst. I really wanted a lemonburst until I got this guitar.

I'm hoping to get it wired up in the next few weeks.

From what I understand, and I could be wrong, an original 1959 Burst( the one now close to 1/2 million in price and the "grail"), looked like this at first when they came out;

But now after over 50 years, the real ons look like THIS;

Yeah the '58-'59's will fade due to the type of dye they used with exposure to UV light, sometime in '60 they fixed that. The original color can be found mostly preserved under the poker chip on the 3 way and under the plastics on the first two years.

I like unusual ones. I am kinda sick of cherry, heritage, and vintage sunbursts. I think it is all those iconic pics of Clapton, Page, etc...I figured, why have them if they already do?

For something very different I intend to try this:

Actually, that's not quite the right one. One I like better is is a file type can't upload.

I love a properly done cherry SB, where you can easily see the gradations of color between the yellow and the red. Really hard for most cameras and monitors to recreate all those subtle shadings. I have an LP Supreme and a 1960 Classic Premium Plus and they are just gorgeous. Without those gradations you have a clownburst...yuk. I also like many of the Tobaccoburst finishes. When Gibson does it right, they really do a great job. They do a "Sunrise Teaburst" on some of the Historic LPs that I like. My '59 Historic is Iced Tea...not my favorite in my hands, but it does pop under the red stage lights.

Not a fan of the silverburst.

I've never cared for the old 2-color Fender bursts, but a great 3CSB...wow!

I like to see the wood grain in the burst.

Absolutely 100% correct. I used to have the first issue Beauty of the Burst book, it was amazing to see how one finish changed to what could be easily called 12 or more finishes today. Some went light, some went dark, some kept red, some lost all the red, it's really amazing to me.

Blue or green bursts for me

Not the reptile or dragon burst that combines green to blue
That's just hideous to me

Not really into the blue berry burst they have out now
With the red purple fade in the color

Three tone sunburst on a strat is awesome
Two tone burst on a Tele is iconic

Red burst on quilt is beautiful as well

I kinda dig black to blue or dark red, or even black to walnut. Both are unusual in a sea of cherry or lemon or vintage sunburst guitars out there. I also like the weird 'reverse' bursts.

Yes, that teaburst is amazing when done right!
