Your guitar(s) that you miss.

Just sitting here bored and not really feeling so hot tonight, trying to think of an interesting topic for a thread. Started wondering, has anyone else here traded a guitar that they miss? Many years ago, i owned a natural flamed top gibson es 335. I traded it for a benedetto bambino which i later traded for a k-line speingfield model (boutique strat copy). It's the only guitar i've ever owned, traded and somewhat regret trading. The thing was great. Either way though, it ultimately resulted in my trading for the k-line, which has become the apple of my eye - so i can't be too upset.

The es335 is really the only guitar i've owned, traded and really miss

Did you ever have a guitar you owned, decided to sell or trade and really miss?

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

Not as much as I'd think on reflection... I had an original Squier 51 , guess I'd have kept it longer as they seem to go for hmm, a bit more than twice than what I paid, but... It'd still leave me desiring other axes and I'm not sure I'd play it much.

I had a 98 ? Les Paul of some sort at one point. I miss the smell of that guitar and the feel of the nitro, but it really wasn't compatible with what I was/am trying to do, and it was a bit of a money pit for that and other reasons.

The two pieces of gear I miss most, on reflection: A guitar that wasn't mine (Strat Plus, borrowed from a friend) and the stupid Line 6 Spider amp my dad bought me when they first came out, that I "accidentally gave away" (was cheated out of) even though it sounded terrible. I'm tempted to find another, to see if I can make use of it... But somehow I feel like I'd still dislike it. Just the temptation of knowing and reminiscing.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

My first real, functional electric...a 1990-91 Ibanez RG570 in a very unique desert sunburst (metallic orange to red) finish and a maple fretboard from the factory.

I loaded it with my very first set of Duncans: Screamin' Demon in the bridge, Hot Rails in the middle and an Alnico II Pro in the neck.

Wish I never sold it, but I was young(er) and dumb.

Here's a 10+ year old picture from back when I sold it (you know, when grainy 2-megapixel digital cameras were expensive and high tech...ha ha!):

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

I miss my first bass that was stolen. Also a couple of amps that met the same fate. Other than that, I don't buy or sell guitars really. When I get one it is with the intention of staying for good. I keep the collection relatively small as a result.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

Gibson Blackbird bass, I bought it on closeout from MF for $750 back in '02. I was 19 and it was the first high end instruments I ever owned. I sold it on ebay for $1750 because I needed to buy a new car.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

A 1996 Ibanez RG 570... Played like butter but was tonally dead no matter what pickups I tried in it

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

-'59-'60 Gibson Melody Maker that had been completely gutted/hotrodded(2 HB,Floyd),but I traded it towards my LP
-Sweet Washburn Cutaway A/E,but can't remember the model
-Gibson MIII
-Ibanez Roadst(a/e?)r w/Mpl MIJ Fender neck,Was "borrowed" w/o permission & then stolen...

Could be worse,I guess, all things considered.

Thanx for teh reminder.
:p

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

My first PRS Custom 22.....circa 1998. Purple with an amazing 10 top. Paul was still using those locking tuners with the wings. The back and neck were what I call piano black. Just that slim view of maple round the top edge. Just a beautiful piece. But I had to off-load it in a trade to get my current Taylor as I was doing a ton of acoustic shows and needed a better axe and just couldn't justify having so much wrapped up in an electric that wasn't really helping to pay the bills.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

I have 2 that I miss. They were stolen from me/my apartment about 10 years ago and never recovered. One was a Blue ESP LTD MV-200. I had a STK-S4 and a P-Rails in it at the time. Second was a White Ibanez SZ320EX (only year with that color) with a Crazy 8 in the bridge. I'd give almost anything to have them back.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

theres a few but my r6 is the one i miss most. just didnt give it enough time since i was totally a fender guy at the time, light resonant and sounded great. the two p90's werent very balanced but both tones were great. it was a rare all gold model

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

Gibson M-III Standard in black, superbly versatile and played beautifully. MIJ Fender Contemporary Telecaster in burgundy mist. Dual humbuckers and System 1 trem.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

Got several and a couple amps. Most were sold for a single reason back in -2009-2011 when a local political group attacked me and my family costing us well over 6 figures in lost income. Had a large collection of high end hair band era guitars ( mostly Carvins) and some unique amps that saved my house. Worth it Yep but there are several I really miss!

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

A mid-80s Lotus POS. Lost it in the same fire that damaged my Westone. It played like crap, but it was my first electric guitar... wish I still had it for old times sake!

Here it is with a 17-year-old BriGuy in my senior pictures from 1986:

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

I had a killer 89 Les Paul Standard in black, bitd. sold it in 92 I think. Best production Les Paul I ever laid hands on. SH5 in the bridge. Circuit board in the neck. No pics unfortunately.

but, still this is the baddest non vintage Les Paul I ever had the luxury to play. Once in a.lifetime tone monster and I got laid off and had to sell. I still whince when I think about it 10 years later.

,05 R8.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

1988 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty 57 Reissue w/2 pickups. The dumbest trade I've ever done was swapping it for a 54 Custom Shop Stratocaster, since I was more into strats at the time. I got tired of it because the nut always had problems. I should have just had a luthier put a bone nut on it. Duh.

1995 PRS Custom 24 with one of the best vintage sunburst flametops you've ever seen. I actually traded it for another Les Paul Custom Black Beauty....my current 3 pickup 35th Anniversary. I would have liked to have kept that PRS though. It was stunning.
