Well I been dong much reading in preparation for my first building project a Warmoth carved Maple Top LP. Just could not see paying for $3k minimum for a Gibson or PRS singlecut that I wanted. Along with the fact my big figers jut don't fit the normal Gibson fretboards very well so that's the main reason for going the custom route. The guitar will have a Magogany body and neck. The body will have the thick carved maple top and the fretboard ebony. It will be 25.5 scale. I figured that the maple cap and ebony along with the scale will certainly lead to some bright sounds.
I am looking for a good thick crunch sound like Alter Bridge, Nickelback, etc but enough versitility to play some of my other favorites like Rush, Randy Rhoads, George Lynch (but not too much since I have a couple GMWs for that), etc. I am playing through my voodoo valve online and my Fender Ultimate chorus that is 60 or 65 watts, I forgot which.
Anyway, my choice at this point is the Custom Custom Bridge and Pearly Gates Neck. The PG sounds a litte nicer to me than the JB on the samples. The CC seems to have the right balance of crunch, distortion and smoothness. I want a prety decent output for the brige HB. I also wanted to put at least 2 and maybe 4 DPDT pots in. I am circuit savy and I am also getting the Brosnac electronics book also so I will have plenty of examples to read. I am hopeful that someone else with an LP with maple top and ebony might chime in. Please let me know your opinion of this combo and how well they might work together, especially on matching levels, etc. Thanks for reading this long post! :fing2:
