Your thoughts on this....

Hey Folks I'm gassing for a LP'ish guitar. I'm leaning toward a PRS SE245. http://prsguitars.com/se245/

I played one in a LGS and really liked the feel of the neck and the action was low and not buzzy anywhere on the neck. I played it unplugged and it resonated well and had a lot of sustain. Any thoughts?

Do it! If you can afford it then go for it. PRS makes some great quality guitars and you'll be happy with it!

Re: Your thoughts on this....

I have the SE Soapbar and SE One. IMO, the weak points are the stock pickups, electronics and machineheads. I upgraded both guitars.

If you dislike the physical layout of the SE 245 controls, there is always the Bernie Marsden model. This has VVT controls like an Explorer. It also has the advantage of vintage-style "keystone" machineheads.

I had a PRS SE that I LOVED. It was resonant and had perfect frets / fretwork. And great pickups (P90s).

Also, it had a HUUUUUUUUUuGE neck. Wide fat, biggest I've ever had on a guitar.

THey're great.

That would be their first generation, single cutaway SE Soapbar. The neck profile is into Gibson LP '58 territory but not as huge as a Fender Relic Nocaster.

Yep - giant. Although it got me used to huge guitar necks, and when I had USACG build me a neck for a home build, I spec'd an even huger neck. The "Fatback," 1" all the way.

Re: Your thoughts on this....

I've got the Marsden. I upgraded the nut and tuners and I'm much happier with it since I did that. Pickups are next, I just can't seem to settle on a set. I've also noticed that the neck stays straight much longer than the ones on any of my other guitars.

Re: Your thoughts on this....

May I be so bold as to suggest the Whole Lotta Humbucker pair? No sissy coil splitting! Just phase reversal for that Peter Green effect.

Re: Your thoughts on this....

Looks like the only diff in that and the Bernie marsden (funny, Id never heard of him til I saw the sig guitar) are the knob layout (I prefer the standard 4) the keys, neck binding and the bernie is one color option. I never know how to guage the PRS neck shapes. wide fat, wide thin.. how do these compare to anything? I guess I need to try some and see.
Anyhow, phred, looks like a good choice!!

Re: Your thoughts on this....

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, David Coverdale's Trousersnake was actually a pretty good purple-ish Blues/Rock sextet. Bernie Marsden and Mickey Moody were the guitarists. Modest gents. Tasteful players. Not especially big hair. Not especially egotistical. (Just as well. ;) )

Bernie Marsden is the fortunate keeper of one mofo vintage Gibson Les Paul. He will live well in retirement.
