WITH FULL DISTORTION

F. Hails Railsologist
Hellow Guys
how are yah?
i was researching some guitar tones that i liked and , among the Pantera one with the rocktron piranha and some other stuffs, the ZOOM 9030 came up in the list
do you guys know someone that owns it or someone that has some clips of it?
i know that TRISTITIA-ONE WITH DARKNESS Cd was recorded with that rack unit
and i have a suspicious that some MF and King diamond albuns were also recorded with it. plus Anathema-serenades may be recorded with it
so, its interesting
do you guys has any soundclips or more input on this?
Hails
and thanks in advance
JP

Re: Zoom 9030

Mercyful Fate.

I seriously doubt pro musicians use Zoom gear though....

It's far more likely that Zoom patches were designed to reproduce specific famous sounds.

Re: Zoom 9030

I remember Richie Sambora used to endorse a little ZOOM unit in the early 90's.

This?

I had one and it was the biggest piece of garbage I have ever had the misfortune to plug into. Killed the clean tone, the fx were terrible, and it proved to be incredibly unreliable.

Re: Zoom 9030

Yeah, thats the exact model
i completely agree
zoom gear is as crappy as hell
but those guys i mentioned managed to get an interesting DISTORTION out of it.
thats why i wanted to know mroe about it
Thanks mEn

Re: Zoom 9030

I just sold mine to Ed Hunter on this forums.. I guess he has been using one for years from what he said. I tried it but didn't care to learn all the bells and whistles to make its magic.. I use a Line 6 M9 for now and suits me fine other then I needed the M13 more so..
All I can say is give Ed a post and see what comes of it.

One last thing I remember something that Zoom showed a history of their pedals I think from the new website that has been taken over. here is a link http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/history/04.php

Cheers!

Re: Zoom 9030

I used to have a 3030, which I liked "stand alone".
But didn't have a "pedal friendly" amp at the time (JCM MkIII).

I used to play with headphones in an appartment.

Amps/speaker sim: not so good
Effects: wish I still had it

The expression pedal was pretty good as well.

Plus, these things are 100% plastic, but built better then my all metal Korg Toneworks AX1500G... which is breaking down as at the moment.

Re: Zoom 9030

I have used the 9030 for years as my late nite headphone amp and have never found anything that takes it on to dupe a modded marshall plexi on 10 ten with headphones. I tried the line 6 PODS and the tone works by korg and the VOX tone lab, and whatever came out This zoom half rack is pure analog COMP+ OD so the distortion is not harsh and raspy at all ,very, very tube like if you know how to tweak it.
You have to tweak these to get em to sound amazing like those guys did on those records. I love mine and like bugera 911 said i bought his because after 18 years mine finally went, but keep in mind i used it a real lot(every nite after hours) and like i said it has been 18 YEARS!:approve:
One trick is to make sure it is set on AMP and not LINE. there are many other tweaks and tricks to these such as using the para EQ instead of the 4 band and i use the bass guitar cab sim for a warmer vintage marshall type tone.:14:

Yes and again thanks! you were a lifesaver for my late night jammin!:)

Re: Zoom 9030

I own 2 of these for a long time, and also the 9050. They're great, if you know how to tweak it, like Ed Hunter said.
Try to turn off some effects like the comp, Amp, Ext, and maybe others.
You can find great reverbs on it...
With a very few exceptions, and a few settings, i think all the factory presets seems to be very sintetic.
I own also the ADA mp-1, the jmp-1, the digitech 2120, all are great with their very own charecteristcs, but this small box cand do magic things also...

That would actually show how little you know about "pros". Ever heard of Megadeath,Peter Frampton,Steve Vai, to name only a few that use Zoom stuff today,as I write this. I realize that Zoom pedals and effects are a bit more complex to the average player but the pros who know what they are doing have no problem with Zoom equipment. To say that you doubt that a pro would use Zoom makes me wonder where you have ever played? I have been in the business for over twenty five years and I can name 'em all day long...Keep practicing and maybe you can work your way up to Zoom...
