Zoot Suit

First off how does one go about painting one? Secondly, why are they called that?

These are questions I didn't know I had until I realized a Zoot guitar doesn't really match most Zoot suits.

They are not painted with stripes.
They are essentially plywood laminate - each ply died a different color.
I think they are ugly as hell.

Why are they called zoot suit? Haven't you seen zoot suits?

That's how I was guessing they did it, but I couldn't find any good pictures that showed the grain.

The bi-color ones, I can kind of see how someone looked at it and said "this goofy looking guitar looks like those goofy pin stripe suits" but I feel the one that got pushed the most clearly looks way more like a jaw breaker

Yeah... not a fan either.

I don't mind the fact that they're plywood.

It's just carved top SG's I've always thought are pretty ugly.

The whole multicolor aesthetic is pretty hippie too. Kinda like Orange amps, LOL.

I always thought it would have been a strange idea to bring up in a new product meeting.

I feel the name came up with a team brainstorming where someone said "Zoot suit" and everyone else said "I'm not really feeling it, but if no one comes up with something better we will use it" and no one else cared enough to keep thinking.
