Zzounds verses sweetwater

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

Sweetwater sends you candy, but then you get a call from a sales engineer. You have to weigh the free candy VS the no sales engineer phone call. I got a laffy taffy last time, so I think it was worth it.

I never minded the call from my sales engineer, Nick Schenkel. He always remembered why I ordered what I ordered and would always spend a few minutes just BSing with me. He hooked me up with crazy deals a couple times, too. That personal attention has always made me see if purchasing from Sweetwater was feasible as my first option. I've gone with Zzounds a couple times because they have the no-credit payment plan deal.

I've gone with AMS for the no credit three pmt deal as well.

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

I've ordered from Sweetwater, Zzounds and MF and never had an issue with any of them. I've only ever returned to MF though.

Who has done the 21 day exchange through each of the online suppliers?

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

I have ordered from both, and they are both pretty great. When I ordered my Epi G400 from zzounds, I had to send back 2 different guitars of the same model for fretwork problems, and they paid the shipping each time. I didn't have any issues with anything I've ordered from Sweetwater. I did like that they called to make sure the address was correct on my second order, as I send the first order, my amp and cab, to my retired neighbors house so I knew it would be safe when in arrived, in case I was at work.

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

The sales engineers from Sweetwater do not call to try and sell you anything. They call to make sure you are happy with your purchase. I bought an amp that I wasn't thrilled with once and said it wasn't my favorite when the rep called. He insisted that I return it at no expense for a full refund and found me something that suited me much better. I've done business with them for years and have always been taken good care of.

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

I've made several purchases through ZZounds. I like their 4-payment plan, and I hate talking on the phone.

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

I've been very happy with the customer treatment from Sweetwater. The Sales Engineer they pair up with you will be dealing with you on all your future orders as well, so they can really give you the proper attention. It's not like going to say GC and dealing with a different bozo each time. The dudes at Sweetwater are also really knowledgeable in their departments so you can get good advice from them. Zzounds is probably good as well, but never ordered from them.

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

I usually just search for whoever has free-shipping and no sales tax. I wouldn't mind if all that crap was added into the advertised price first, so you don't see something as "$75" and then having the total end up being "$90".

I also hate when retailers, whether it be online or actual stores, list something as "$74.99" or even "$74.95". Cut the crap and make it "$75". It would also get rid of the stupid change they have to give you. Who wants to walk around with a pocket of pennies?

/incoherent rant.

On-topic now: I can't remember doing any deals with Sweetwater, but their Customer Service sounds impressive. I know my neighbor bought gear from them, and they made sure everything arrived in perfect condition, and that he was satisfied with the product and service. I wouldn't mind doing business with them.

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

I support Sweetwater when I can. They are a lot less messy than the GC/MF family. My favorite item is that they are willing to stand their ground on sales they advertise and not have a million exclusions. An example is plastic parts for Les Pauls. They have Gibson's historic parts for fair prices and don't delete the free or reasonable shipping. Guess what happens? I order more stuff, don't exploit the shipping and everybody is happy.

I strongly dislike being called even if it is to make sure I'm OK but that is the lesser concern here.

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

Sweetwater is a great company. I support them whenever I can.

I don't mind the calls, they're easy enough to get off of. It's not like the guy on the other end of the line is pushy.

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

I like Sweetwater. while I'm not a big fan of the calls and usually don't answer, I appreciate and respect that kind of dedication to customer service. I also like the guitar gallery on the website where you can see actually photos of the instrument you are purchasing. Added bonus for me is if I ever need to exchange something with a quick turn around, they're located about 2 1/2hrs straight down the highway from me

Re: Zzounds verses sweetwater

Never purchased anything from Zzsounds. But I like that Sweetwater automatically gives you a 3 year warranty on any purchase free of charge. Plus when it comes to SD pickups, you have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. I think Sweetwater is a win/win.
