I'd never thought I'd see someone refer to Ratt as hair metal.

They were more California metal -- that first group that got inspired by Van Halen and the L.A. scene. Kinda a proto-hair metal

Warrant and Cinderella are definitely hair metal.

At some point in life, you just start listening to music and ask yourself weather you enjoy it, not weather it suites your way of life. I listen to Bob Marley, Van Halen, Opera, Herbie Hankock and Stevie Ray Vaughn... I can also enjoy a pop tune and a crazy punk song... there's place for everything...

This goes back to what I was saying earlier - Punk is an ethic, not a style of music. Sure it's been labeled that by the Industry, and you will probably find a whole section set aside for this music in your local Coconuts store, it doesn't make it so however. Same goes for Indie. "Indie Rock" is not a style of music, it is also an ethic. It all goes back to DYI and that mindset - create your own labels, create your own touring routes, create your own means of production and distribution. This is what binds bands like Talking Heads, The Clash, Billy Bragg, Minor Threat, and The Evens together. They all sound completely different, but they all have elements of Punk Rock. It all comes back to DYI.

I'm actualy hoping that we will return to better soul music when hip hop would die - more then I'm worried about the future of rock.

I think hip-hop is still very young, just like rock n roll was in the 80s. It's in the teenage stage, it's 99% crap, but there is some good underground stuff out there (Sage Francis) and there's always the good rap that existed around it's birth (NWA, Public Enemy) before it went all "gangsta". Right now rap is just in it's hair metal stage.

Honestly, I don't care what really goes on in the mainstream, if there's something good I like I'll listen to it, but small labels like Alternative tentacles and Fat Wreck Chords never let me down, as well as the local punk bands here. ASIDE: Brantford has a bunch of local talent, but shows aren't quite being runnin in a way that would get this place a lot of attention, not to mention that there's only ever 150 kids at a show, unless Ill Scarlett, Flatliners or (guh) Protest The Hero comes through, then it's 500.

Have your hair metal, think what you want about it, but you'll never see me spinning a VH record. I'll stick with what I love.

wow didnt mean to start ww3 ,im just one of those guys who plug in and rock out,i hated nirvana,but loved sound garden and mother love bone.the purpopse of the thread was to maybe have some sd forum bros scoop me into some bands that dont suck,and if i hear sonmething cool enough on my space ,guess what,kaching ,i get a new cd.i still buy music. whos on the road right now worth seeing? well just saw dio and iommi and the 25 yr old set list in question and was a great show,the last new c d i bought, i now use for a pizza cutter,i shelled out my 13 bucks on something called avenged seven fold,,i liked one song outta 12,ya put on the very first van halen album and ya can let it play all the way through ,not fast forward the whole thing ,because its time less not timed as in time to record ,whether yer ready or not ,huh your songs suck but its ok your on the cover of guitar universe you must rule...........something.............some where..........

+1. BTW Nirvana had more than 3 albulms, they had Incesticide which is a compilation of all studio cuts between 1990 and 1992 and Unplugged which is a live album. Plus From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishka is a live compilation and NIRVANA which is a greatest hits thing.

I think he was referring to the fact that Nirvana only produced three studio albums.

I know plenty of punks who cut off their sleeves I'm guessing to make it look more weathered (kinda poser-ish don't ya think?), drink as many Mickey's tall cans as they can get their hands on, and wreak havoc all night.

There's a big difference between people who dress punk and people who are punk.

In my experience, most people who dress punk are the least punk of them all.

Country. It used to tell a story, now it takes Viagra, and shops at WalMart.
Rock. A vast junkyard, making me feel better when I find a decent band out there. It's like a mineshaft...You have to shovel tons of dirt it before you get a nugget. It's just the way it is.

Fair enough. I've always counted Incesticide as a studio album though because it was all studio cuts, but I understand him saying they had 3.

Which I assure you is perfectly possible. Love AIC, who did it first and better, can't stand STP, who ripped off a winning formula, made a load of money, split up and then the singer came back and released another buch of crap with some other washed-up has beens.

wow slash as a has been....................that hurts, but yea im not a velvet revolver fan either.but i always liked slash,to bad axel im a total idiot rose screwed that band up,well that and a slight substance abuse issue.
