Your kidding yourself if you think this doesn't exist in almost all forms of music.

There will always be those who taint/molest forms of music and will say they enjoy it when they are poseurs. The difference is when there is no substance and all posing in the form of music to begin with.

What do you define as substance?

The truth is, it has more to do with your age more than likely. The whole music venue business is driven by alcohol and their ability to sell it. More often than not, a club is not going to be profitable only running off ticket sales. Even in a major city like Chicago there are very few small all-ages venues.

I was the only person sober there. There's very few bars for gigging musicians, I only know of 2 and they're more for cover bands or folk music.

                    This was 1990.

What redeeming, substantive quality does this music possess?

The problem with rock-n-roll is that people sit around and talk about how ****ty it is when they should be ROCKING. GO ROCK NOW!

To be fair, The Clash, Buzzcoks, etc. were the second wave of Punk.

The American Hardcore that came afterward: Black Flag, Minor Threat, DOA, etc., were technically third-wave.

Pearl Jam is still the greatest band out there, yep seems alright with me...

Although I like classic rock it'll still be interesting to see those of us who grew up listening to rock in the early 90's 20 years from now complaining that everything new sucks.
