Peer pressure and online shaming?
That only happens to people that give a hoot what others think of them.
I'm one of those who doesn't, unless you're signing my paycheck. And even then...

Well, there's a free one accessable on Chrome. Look up "Drumbit".

Re: A little friendly solo contest?

Here is a collaboration track a bunch of us White metal guys over on an old forum called Christian Metal Realm did a few years back. Just something fun the members did with a couple guys doing the basic track then everybody taking a measure to play over. No competition just us having some fun and comparing styles. You got a measure sent to you with a start stop time then you played over the track sent the raw recording back without the track and Brad put it all together. My measure started at 1:45 to right at 1:58 and was with my Washburn USA MG 102 and the red Prosonic head. We never heard what the others played over their measures until it all came together. Cool fun thing for us to work together on from all over the internet world and be able to play off each other. Not great musically but sure was a WHOLE lot of fun--.

Just saw this last night....I was wailing to the backing track a little. Good times! I may have to jump in on this new one...

I totally forgot I said I would do another one haha, thanks for the reminder! I'll try and get something similar

Here is the backing track: https://soundcloud.com/kamandasd/sd-solo-contest-1-am-2

It's a simple hard rock backing track in Am. Let's see what you got!

Also for those interested:

Guitar: Squier Standard Fat Strat with SD Custom8/'59 (it's my only axe currently in standard)
Bass: 80's BC Rich NJ Eagle with SD SPB-3's

OP:

I remember YEARS ago we had something like this. Think it would be neat to hear everyone's flavour over the same backing.

I'm willing to make a backing track for this and I'll see if I have anything useful to give as some sort of prize? I was thinking some sort of midtempo hard rock style thing so that a wide variety of styles can go over top. If anyone's got any ideas on certain progressions then let me know. Key would be a guitar friendly one too...A or E.

So let me know what you guys think, anybody down?

Kamanda and LLL do the right thing here :)

Re: A little friendly solo contest?

Man I can’t believe I missed this. I want into this so bad I’d even ask any of you to PM me when it’s going on. I love the idea of hearing how I compare to other members of the forum. Not a pissing match, just a collaboration...
