About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

Great job ... like herding cats ... you're doing fine. No way I buy anything we vote on (looks that way anyway).

But I bet custom shop business picks up 5-fold since they'll build you what YOU really want.

Fun to watch though. :eek13:

+1.

Something about various specs being voted on and thrown into a pickup. Committee design usually doesn't work out well.

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

All I can say is that no matter what peoples opinions it does look like this pickup is going to be prety unique. No matter what opinions people have on the choices given in the polls you've set no one else got up and got the ball rolling. You were never going to please everyone, but hopefully the end result will be a mighty fine pickup. Everyone may not want one, but then again that was never going to happen anyway.
Keep the faith there, it'll all work out well in the end.

Now, will I be able to get hold of the finished pup in the uk?

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

First of all, thanks for coordinating this, you've done a great job of trying to express everybody's opinions. I think the problem with this though is that the time frame is so short, it's hard to have a real discussion about what we want. That being said, I'm pretty happy with the 13-14k PATB idea, FWIW, it turned out pretty well. As for the complainers, whiners, and negative nancies, screw 'em. They didn't take the responsibility to coordinate this themselves, they didn't put in the effort to try and find a consensus between well over 100 forum membmers with unique and diverse tastes in tone. So, in summation, thanks for taking this on, and while it may help to listen to dissenters, don't take complainers seriously unless they can offer helpful advice.

edit: Actually, I take that back. Screw the whiners.

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

aside from all the whiners, i think this is going very well and you are doing a terrific job. keep up the good work.

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

+1 on all of the positive comments above!

It is a thankless job. However you are doing it well.

When the polls started I was hoping for a Strat pup. Yet I am still excited about getting my hands on the pup that is going to come out of this process. My toughest decision now is do I stop at two or do I buy my alotted four?

So while it isn't much Mike, this comes from the heart - :headbang:

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

Here's another idea, if you want... instead of designing your own pickup, maybe you can all choose one custom shop pickup, like the Brobucker, the 78, the RTM, the Super V, or whatever.

Then, if it works out, next year you can do another special forum deal.

That way you all get a custom shop pickup at a special price and Mike gets to keep his sanity.

Whaddyathink?

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

I'm not in because im on a students budget and have no need for a new pickup Mike, but i've been watching this from interest from afar. You're doing a fine job mate, and so far its looking like this could be a really awesome pickup.

I'd personally be more into that than the current results.

I would love to have a chance at a 78 for a price I could justify.

At the end of our polls we should put our creation up against some of the custom shop pickups (in a poll) and see what happens.

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

well, lets finish this creation we are talking about (13-14k, A8, PATB as the current winner) then put this pup along with the already available custom shop pups in a poll and see who wins.

Right now, I'm all about the PA, but I wouldn't kick a Brobucker or a '78 out of bed.

IMO, this has been THE best suggestion yet, Evan :D

While I'm all for a custom-one-off "mutt" pickup, the lack of direction here has made it really tough compared to the brobucker. I feel Mike has done a bang up job (and thanx bro :bigthumb:) with taking the intitiative....but I think the "idea first.....now how do we build it?" method is a much better way to design a pup (or anything for that matter).

Nobody knows What the H this pickup is gonna sound like with so many things being bandied about..

and unfortunately the most crucial thing that NEEDS to be bandied about, i.e. tone.... isn't. :eek13:

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

Mike, I hope I didn't come across as someone who complained in my posts during the polls. If I did I'd like to apologize, I certainly didn't mean to come off that way.

The fact that you made these polls in the first place was great because without them, we wouldn't have had a clue what to do. And you did a fantastic job with them, remaining completely unbiased throughout. Good on you for going this far with them and putting up with everyone that complained about things during the process (myself included).

Evan's idea sounds good as well, another chance to get the Brobucker or get something like the '78 would be a great idea too.

Re: About the forum pickup polls....a personal note...

Great job Mike, and this a great community! I wanted a P90...but this was not to be, so no bigs. Long Live Democracy...espescially when people actually vote with their own money!
