Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

So, as mentioned in these threads: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?284926-Getting-some-pickups-soon

https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?284904-New-guitars-coming-today!

I got some new guitars to work on. I was wondering if someone could put together a list of parts I need to make the Mako/JTG Infinity playable. Doesn't have to be great, just okay. There are tons of pics between the two threads, but just ask if you need a certain picture taken. I would really like it if I could get the parts from Guitar center, only for convenience, but I should be able to order them if needed. For pickups, I'll probably be going for the Duncan performer series The Detonator. Although if someone has something better to suggest, feel free! I haven't even really looked at a Single coil, so if someone could also pick one out for that, that's be great!

Thanks for any help!!!!

Here all the pictures of this guitar in both the other threads:

Just to sort them out from the Hondo. I will be doing the Hondo, I'd just like to finish this one first. :p

Other than the pickups, you'd need volume and tone pots 500k ohm lots of people like A500k for volume and B500k for tone (I personally prefer B's for both). you'll also need a 3 position toggle switch, a capacitor for the tone control most use either a .047uf cap or a .022uf cap, I couldn't telly the difference so I won't recommend one or the other. Also you'll need an output jack, and a couple feet each of black and white 22 AWG wire which you probably won't use all of, but it's a good idea to have plenty extra just in case.

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Some machine heads too. I imagine those on there will be rubbish?

as for the other pickup, maybe just a classic hotrail??

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Thanks! Any certain Pots/output jack/capacitor/toggle switch? Or should any work? Can you get this stuff at GC?

Actually I went to the guitar store and he said the machine heads that are on it will do for right now. About the pickup, like this one?

If so, is there a cheaper option that'll work for the next while? I'm still really new with guitar so I couldn't really tell the difference unless they were like 5$ pickups. I'm not sure if this matters but I like to play classic rock/hard rock. Of course I'll try to play some metal now just because these guitars look wrong doing anything below hard rock. :headbang: But I would still like it to be able to play atleast as soft as hard rock.

Alright I put this together so far, http://www.guitarcenter.com/MyAccount/Cart.aspx what needs to be changed? None of the pots say A or B infront of the 500k? And, I can't seem to find a capacitor or wire, although I know I can get wire somewhere.

Is it me or does that humbucker look much larger than normal? I would measure it and check before i bought one.

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Yes the one in the pictures, measure the sides of the pickup and the sides of the pickup rings

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

BTW i hate how you always hide the pics in the spoilers box... it makes the forum wonky when replying to the post

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Well, I thought it would be annoying to have like 10 pics trying to load as soon as you click the thread. I know it annoys me. :p

I'll measure the pickup. What's the pickup rings?

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

From the screw hole to screw hole in the mounting plate is about 3 5/16 and width is around 1 5/8 and the ring is 3.5 by 1.75 if that sounds about right.

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Ah ok then your cool... must be the angle of the pics cause the pickup looks real fat and some of the 80's covered humbuckers came in non standard sizes... but sounds like your good

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

We scraped off some of the black paint, underneath there is red with like shiny silver flakes...? I'll post a pic in a min.

Here's a pic: P1010656.jpg

We sanded off some of the red paint, and look what we found! P1010657.jpgP1010658.jpg I guess it is an Infinity?

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Undercoat?

What are you going to paint that with? Is that guitar solid wood or ply?

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Well, originally it looks like it was white or gray, then painted black, then painted red with silver flakes, then painted black.

Are there any paints that are really bad for guitars? I'm not 100% about the wood, but it has a small crack in it next to the output jack and it doesn't look like plywood. It's light so I was guessing maybe basswood? I'll let you know when I know what exactly it is.

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Well to do a paint job of decent quality is going to be hard. Unless you know someone who sprays cars or something?

If you strip all the paint off maybe it would be a candidate for a natural wood finish? Much easier for your first project, you could do it in tru oil ir something similar.

Re: Alright, can someone put a list together for me?

Well, my father is a semi-professional painter, with mostly everything. Spray painting, Airbrushing, normal brushing etc, but I'm still not sure what kind of paint is OK for guitars. I actually think if i end up doing the Hondo too, I'll be doing some kind of natural finish.
