Amp Sims Vs Tube Amps

I didn't know there was a new version of the Vypyr, but there it is!

It's unique as the only all analog modeling amp. That along makes it worth a listen. The 100 Watt Vypyr X pretty much looks like the modern incarnation of the Bandit.

I had been playing about ten years and had an epiphany with the Bandit one time. Bought one used and remember thinking, "I actually like the distortion more than my tube rig."

Peavey still has a DSP chip handling the models, pedals, rack effects, delay and reverb in the X series. But, they can get preamp and power amp tube tone and artifacts, from their analog Transtube tech. Side note that I still own a Bandit and XXL, so I understand liking the Bandit's tones!

When did Transtube use actual tube? I have Express 112 I bought new for 270 dollars when it first came out in 95. It's just a beginner solid state combo.

Transtube uses patented transistor technology to emulate tube circuits. It does this in the Transtube series amps, and also in the Vypyr series amps.

There are two of Peavey's first generation Vypyrs, the Vypyr 60 and 120, which use actual tube (12AX7 phase inverter, 6L6 power tubes) power amplifiers.

So the answer is Transtube has never used actual tubes.

If I had a tube VYPYR, I would be in. But alas....

What a shame. New Vypyr has zero connectivity. No FX loop. No external cabinet. Only a jack for proprietary footswitch. I like the idea of all analog preamp, but without an FX loop, its just a $400 practice amp.

It was cool that someone mentioned the new Vypyr, though. I didn't even know Peavey was trying to keep that line alive! Of course, it has nothing on a similarly priced Katana except Bluetooth, which I'm sure the next gen of Katanas will have, also.

I do miss my big "Tube" Vypyr of old. The 2x12 version was a really great sounding amp aside from the overly aggressive, non-adjustable noise gate and occasional software glitch that required a full shut-down and restart in the middle of playing.

Meh, I thought the intent was humor since it was directed at a circuit technology. Thinking about it, outside that context of humor, my response was probably worse. In the real world, I am sensitive to this. Definitely no offense, politics or religion intended.

As for using computers as an amp, I can't bring myself to do that. I usually spend to much time around computers during my day gig.
