Amp You Have Owned

Re: Amp You Have Owned

First amp to current

Fender Champ practice amp
fender Twin Reverb 1965
Fender Bassman 10 ( this was a cool move as it was heavier sounding but still amazingly clean)
Marshall JCM800 and straight cab

Stopped playing for 13 years and sold everything.

Got back in after layoff.

Vox Valvtronix 2x12
Fender Twin Reissue 1965
Krank Revolution 1
Peavy JSX

Always checking out amps as I like a lot of different models but most of the time when the clean isn't fender clean , I shy away from it. I really enjoyed the 5150 and almost picked one up but the clean channel was dirty. The JSX is very nice and a well rounded amp.
Mesa Boogie I played the Tripple Rec and dug the drive channel but again the Clean was dirty. Didn't buy it
Bogner Urbershal is killer but slighty out of my price range at the time I played it. Really enjoyed everything about this amp even the clean was nice.

Marshal JVM410H is an amp I'll probably pick up one day. It's very nice ,maybe over done but man it's really good sounding.

I want to check out these Blackstar amps everyone keeps talking about , I have not had a chance to play one.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

I used some stone old voice system tube amp when I was a kid. Wish I kept it but it got junked. Some 50W Marshall head, blue tolex but only inside (wtf?). A non-reissue AC30 (yeah should have kept that one but not usable and not transportable and no money).

Today I have a vintage Super Reverb (more as an investment), a 50W 1979 Marshall head and for actually playing a beaten up Shiva.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

My first was an amp from a Sears catalog.. What a piece of dung.
Then I got a PV Special 130.

Then after 12 years of no gear, I bought a Carvin MTS 3212 combo.
Hughes and Kettner Blue 30
Peavey Classic 30
Peavey Ultra plus head.
Marshall JCM 800
Splawn Quick Rod
Egnater Tweaker15

Re: Amps You Have Owned

Re: Amps You Have Owned

As with the guitar thread I own most of what I night.

Here is what I own now:

Fender Deluxe Reverb 1967 with an emmenince speaker

Fender Super reverb 1968 silver face

Marshall 900 50w combo

Bogner Shiva. 1 12 combo.

Komet 60 connected to a Marshall 1960 AX loaded with greenbacks

Out of all of them I use the Shiva and the Komet. The Komet is the most articulate amp I have ever played through. It is the best clean tone of anything I have used

The Shiva has its place as well. It's channel switching and has a great master volume. I A/B these two great amps.

I am playing in a blues band and generally when we do play out the clubs are small do I use my Deluxe Reverb in those situations. Last year we had a gig outside so I was able to use my Marshall.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

*fender frontman 15w
peavey 5150 (block letter)
mesa boogie dual rectifier (3 channel)
line 6 spider III (hell of a downgrade lol)
*mesa boogie rectoverb

* are the amps I still own

Re: Amp You Have Owned

Currently I’m on a highly unsuccessful quest for a head that sounds good, is reasonably priced, doesn’t weigh a ton, and isn’t full of crap features to wow pedestrians (like channel switching and digital reverb.) Why? because I am now an old guy :irate:

OK! what WAS and what still IS.

1st 1960s Traynor Bass Master (sure should have kept that) with homemade cab with Radio Shack 15 or 12 speaker.
2nd Peavey Back Stage Plus
then
Peavey Bandit
Peavey Special 130
Silverface Twin Reverb (goodbye peavey! now we have arrived, accept for half of its career it had crap speakers)
Polytone? (didn’t have this long but it was good I was running it next to the Twin at the gig where the Twin started smoking and hot orange goo was leaking out one of the transformers)
SF Princeton
BF Band Master & 2x12
SF Princeton #2
JCM900 DR 50 Watt1x12 Combo
RI Brown Vibroverb

60s BF Princeton
Band Master Reverb & 70s/80s Marshall 4x12 with G12-65 (should have kept that)
1981 50 watt JMP MV 2x12 Combo (few can compare to this)
1979 50 watt JMP MV 2x12 Combo (this amp is everything I hate about Marshall… maybe I can get it tweaked out to sound as good as the 81)
BF Band Master #2 & Boogie open back 1x12

JCM900 mkIII 50 Watt 1x12 Combo
SF Band Master Reverb #2

Re: Amp You Have Owned

The people who say "I've not owned that many" then list 15 amps are funny.

Owned in the past:
Mesa Lonestar - was the original 100w/50w version before they added the 10w setting to the Classic. I miss the hell out of that amp. It was heavy and hard to lug up and down stairs, and was a touch too loud for most of the clubs around here, but it was the best sounding amp I've ever played.
Fender G-DEC - one of the first ones they made. I do kinda miss this amp as it was a great practice tool with the preloaded bass and drum rhythms. The tones on it weren't impressive, but it wasn't designed to be a tonal monster.
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III - Hated this amp. It was either too bright, or too muddy, and I just never got a satisfactory sound out of it. I'm glad it's gone.
Peavey Valve King Royal 8 - a 5w tube amp. I gave it to my brother, as it had a nasty squealing noise going on that I didn't feel like dealing with, and I never really used it anyway.

Currently Own:
Peavey Rage 158 - This was my first amp. I still use it as a practice amp in my apartment.

My g/f owns a Mesa DC-5, a 68 Fender Bassman, and a Roland Cube 60. I use the DC-5 as my main amp. I occasionally use the Fender Bassman in my second band. The Cube lives at our practice space.

I have the Lonestar Special from Mesa... 4x10 with Jensen and mesa speakers and EL84s, 30 watts and loud as hell but man does it sound good! I don't use it often though because like you I find it incredibly hard to move around places

Re: Amp You Have Owned

I want to get a Lonestar Special 1x12. It will be easier to move around, and it will still sound amazing.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

Still have the stuff in bold.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

Started playing in '79...

First amp was 'Piggy' - not a Pignose - a 'Piggy'. It was a little 10w SS combo POS that I blew up roughly 6 mos after buying it.

Then I got me one of those original Crate models that was actually in a wooden crate like the one below. Maybe 30w? 12" - it lasted me until I needed something loud enough to clear a drummer.

Crate_CR-1_TW_web_small.jpg

Then I got a late '70s Acoustic 1-12" 60w that was just okay - still not loud enough though...

Skrimped and saved all my after school job monies to buy this in '82:

oldgearpic.jpg

Then I bought a minty vintage 1965 Deluxe Reverb with the flight case - for $250 in 1988. The reverb died and I was pissed because I had just bought it like 3 months prior. I was a moron back then and had no idea that you could get replacement tubes and do it yourself, so I traded it for one of these straight up - thought I was getting the better end of the deal. Boy was I wrong lol:

Markleyamp.jpg

Bought a Duncan 84-40 when they first came out. Horrible amp. I have no idea what I was thinking.

Had a '63 Vibroverb Reissue when they first came out. Good amp, not great. Didn't know about tube and speaker upgrades back then - kinda wish I had because I've heard these sound good once some simple changes are made.

Some vintage stuff I've had over the years:

mascostack.jpg

'59 Masco Audiosphere 8 PA w/matching cab, with a '64 Silvertone 1481 peeking around the right side

64Supro16T.jpg

'65 Supro S6416T Trojan Tremolo

440b.jpg

'62 Magnatone Custom 440

This are the four I have currently:

Amps2012.jpg

L to R: '65 Ampeg Reverberocket; '65 Fender Vibro Champ; '65 Fender 6G15 Reverb Unit; '64 Fender 6G2 Princeton; '63 Gibson GA-19RVT Falcon

I've had most of these since the late '80s/early '90s when you could get stuff like this for under $300 all day everyday from music stores and pawn shops. The Gibson Falcon is my main amp and will be buried with me when the time comes.

Re: Amps You Have Owned

Re: Amps You Have Owned

Ok...

Keep in mind some of you have been playing longer than I've been alive.

First Act 1x10 somethingorother
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier 2 channel
Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier 3 channel (non multi watt)
Marshall DSL100 (2013)

Sold my two channel Triple Rec to buy the Marshall. Glad I did too. I have no idea what happened to the first act, and unfortunately, still have the HRD. Not for long though!

I only use the Fender for home practice, trying to integrate the Marshall into my band more but the main amp is still the Mesa. Since I don't really want the others back I'll say I'd love to have a 5150/6505 or any Orange amp.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

Now:

Marshall VS100 Combo
- 3 channel 100watts/25watt switch Hybrid
* I personally love this thing. Uber-flexible with as much or as little dirt as I could want/need, and really responds to different pickups. Hybrid done right! Nice reverb.

Fender Pro Jr
- Single channel 1 vol 1 tone 15 watts class A
* Little Fender tone monster. Extremely Zen. When I get my blues/jazz serious, I go here. Does wicked Cheap Trick/AC-DC also with volume dimed.

Roland Cube 30 (original version)
- 2 channels Roland JC120 + Acoustic/Blackfeace/AC30/Bassman/JCM800/5150/Mesa Recto models
* Say what you want, but the flexibility is amazing, the tones are solid. Just fast cheap and easy.

Others:

Peavey Studio Pro 112 (First Transtube Series)
- two channel, 4 modes
* I would buy this amp again in a heartbeat. It could just play ANYTHING. It was like a Bandit light. Light breqakup sounds were great for SS.

1970's Peavey Classic 65? watt twin 12" Combo (with Tremolo and Reverb)
- This thing was a beast. I would love to still have it.

Also: Crate CA 30 Acoustic. Perfect for home use/practice or ultra small gig.

It's early...missing some stuff I'm sure. Played through a few more in bands - amps that were borrowed/loned/used/practices etc....Those are the big ones.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

Now: nothing.

then-

Marshall JCM 800 2210

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (3 of them)

Mesa Stiletto

don't miss:

Marshall MG50

Peavey Transtube 212

Marshall AVT 50H

Re: Amp You Have Owned

In buying order:

Vox Pathfinder 15 (My first amp, bought in 2001, which I regret selling, as it actually was a pretty cool amp.)
Fender Roc Pro 1000 combo (Bought it in mid 2002. I left it in Trondheim when I moved to Oslo in 2008, and it apparently died about half a year later, before I was able to come collect it.)
Marshall DSL100 head with a 1960BV cab (Bought in 2003, sold in 2005 when I needed the money.)
Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 combo (Bought it last year, love it to bits. The first amp that I have owned since 2008. More "my style of amp" than the DSL100.)

I also own a Marshall MS4, which I can't remember when I bought.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

My first amp was some solid state Ibanez 30 or 50 watter, can't really remember.

Than, a couple of solid state amps come and go:

Fender Frontman 15 w
Zar 10 w
Stagg 15 w ( this was really good solid state, very versatile, a lot of gain... )

As i remember i play a lot through some friend's Marshall MG 15 W a too..

Then i move to Roland Cubes 20 and 40 ( i still got them, really usable amps... )

Then, some small tube amps i have it now :

Blackstar HT-5
Blackheart Handsome Devil 15 .

And now i am starting building Ceriatone JCM 800 2204. i hope it will be done that year.

That's it.:)

Re: Amp You Have Owned

First amp: Peavey MkIII Musician and cab.

All amps I've owned? Let's see. It has been over 30 years. Soon after the Peavey there was a Roland Bolt 60 combo. Also a Hohner solid state practice amp with a 12" Celestion speaker. For a while I think I had a friend's Earth tube amp.
Dean Markley CD100-212 100 watt tube combo
Yamaha G100-212II
Mitchell 100 watt tube head
An 80's Crate combo amp with a 12" speaker. A friend of mine still has that one.

in the 90's I went to a rack rig with Mesa Boogie 50-50 power amp and Halfler T3 preamp, then Hafler Triple Giant preamp with Marshall 20/20 power amp.
Mesa 2-12 cab and Marshall 1-12 cab.
I also bought a Sansamp preamp, a Yamaha DG1000 preamp, Rockman Sustainor preamps, a Mesa Boogie Formula preamp.

Then after 2000, back to amp heads and cabs.
Genz Benz El Diablo
Fender Super Sonic head
Jet City JCA20-H
Peavey 6505+
Peavey Supreme XL
Peavey Penta
Peavey Wiggy
Reason Bambino Grande combo
Marshall JTM60 combo
Tech 21 Power Engine 60 combo
a Yahmaha G100 II head

bass amps: Galien Krueger 400RB and Tech 21 Landmark 300 with Hartke 1-15 cab
