And of Course the GT-1000

So it looks like Boss is releasing a new Multi effects processor i'm gonna wanna try out, be disappointed and then go back to my pedals.
I told myself if Boss makes another one, just pass it on by. But it's $999 and I got the feeling they listened to all my requests in making a higher quality board.
Now I want to go pick one up and try it out. I'm completely happy with my current arrangement of Pedals but of course I want to try out the GT-1000.

I gotta be mental to keep doing this to my self

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

Looks like a significant upgrade over the 100, along the lines of the Helix LT, assuming the modeling is on par.

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

I'd like to see a manual before I made any decisions on purchasing. At that price, I could get a used AX8 (if I didn't already own one), which sounds miles better than any Boss product, and I am a fan of many Boss/Roland products. They have been behind Line 6 & Fractal for years.

They definitely have been behind for probably a decade. They also probably have more resources available than either company, so, if they have been doing significant R&D, this may be something worthwhile. If they are just putting out a "me too" product minimal upgrade and BNGs, it will be a huge disappointment, although at this point in the modeling game I think they know they have to go big or go home (and yes, I also know just because I think they should know it doesn't make it real).

Bravo! A lot of guys just jump into this kind of thing, but it’s good to see that SOMEONE out there still believes in proper strategic planning!

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

I'm all good with my $150 little three button doo-dad.

But I knew exactly what I wanted/needed so I was impervious to bell/whistle hype and marketing

LOL I'm been doing this for years. It started with the GT-8. I ran out and got one. Played with it for months, sold it and went back to pedals. Then the GT-10 came out and I ran out and got it, used it for about a year or so and then went back to pedals. Then the GT-100 came out so I jumped in the truck, picked one up and used it for probably over a year or maybe 2 then sold it and went back to pedals. Picked up a MS-3 thinking this is it, a switcher with no amp modeling , just effects and amp control. I can add some stuff I like to use to it and away I go. hated it and traded it for a ES-5 and now want to get a ES-8 as I have to many pedals and use the 4 cable method which I used since the GT-8.
So now I have my board pretty much perfected and Boss decides to throw a monkey wrench in it. So my Proper strategic planning is a mental cycle I keep going through.
I've been wanting a all in one unit that I like completely, just never found it. I prefer Boss effects over most others but I like Wampler and tc electronics stuff as well. I don't really care for many other brands as I have ran through so many.

We shall see how this one goes

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

Boss is a weird company. They tend to do what they are going to do, no matter what. They rarely listen to users, or see what eles is really popular and try to out-do it. They sort of exist in a little bubble, which can sometimes be a good thing. I don't know if it is a good thing in this case until I read more about this.

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

I used to be convinced that Digitech was the pinnacle of guitar signal processing technology. I went through a big processor, a little one, and a bass processor before I admitted to myself that they sounded like ass. So I stopped buying them. Now I have about forty pedals and couldn’t be happier.

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

So an updated ME board would be their answer to the Helix Lite if this Gt is supposed to compete with the Helix Full.

Atleast they added XLR outs this time around on the new GT.

I disagree.

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

Okay - Let's all be honest: The GT100 was pure suck. Completely useless. Not a good sound in it. Not even a barely useful one - assuming you really tweaked it out. The kind of processing in that heap of junk was easily left behind as far back as 1982. Not even sure why they bothered to make it. Other than the completely disfunction, and probably beta released of the GT6,8, and 10.

GT1000 is the only way to go.

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

I think you forgot the sarcasm font Ace(?)

I'm still using a GT-100, and I will admit that the models are behind the Helix, Fractal, Amplifire, Headrush, etc... there are good sounds in it.

I do believe that if Roland focused their resources on greatness instead of mediocrity that the 1000 could be great, but based on their track record, until someone gets one in their hands, who knows. For the same money the Helix LT is a "more" sure bet and has been out long enough to get established.

I've used Boss stuff forever and I'm intrigued, not sure if I'm $1K intrigued yet.

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

Well, I loved the GT6, disliked the ME80 and currently have the GT100 which I like up to a point but, since getting a Blackstar id15tvp have not even taken the GT100 out of the cupboard.
Boss effects are generally very good but their amp models fail to deliver plus, I find anything later than the GT6 is a PITA to program.
Less is often more, and the excellent modelling and basic but very useful effects of the blackstar amp which is also a damn sight quicker and easier to dial in the sound I want make it the winner by a country mile.
It will be a cold day in hell before I buy another multi effect!

Re: And of Course the GT-1000

I disagree.

Do you really think all these sounded good?

RP5
RP14d
RP50
RP100
BP80

The first time I plugged into a Vox ToneLab, it blew all those Digitech guitar processors away sooo bad. And I stopped using my BP80 after I got my Sansamp Bass Driver DI.

So what you want another $499-599 piece of crap like the GT-100? I had it for over a year and never could get it to sound the way I wanted. I think Boss sucks terribly at modeling . The effects are ok in the GT-100 but it sucks the life out of your amp in the 4CM.
I'm really hoping Boss did a good job on this. I'm gonna bring one home to test drive for sure.

Nope, that's not what I was saying at all! THe 100 isn't total suck, it just takes a lot of work to get usable sounds and they aren't as good as the higher end modelers out there. Actually, I even think the RP1000 has better models than the 100. But I am using a 100 and have good enough sounds for running direct right now, although I do have an AMT SS-20 on the way to use as the "real" preamp in a psuedo 4CM. Again, it takes a lot of setup and messing with the loop levels to use it in the 4CM. FWIW, it takes some work to set the input levels correctly for the models to sound decent in the 100, basically, it takes work, which I hate, but it was all I've had to work with for the past year, so I figured out how to make it work for me.

What I was saying about Roland/Boss is that they probably have as many or more resources than any other musical intrument/effects company and if they pointed those resources in the right direction, I'm sure they could come up with a great modeler. But, as Mincer said, and I agree, they aren't great at listening to what users want, they kinda go do their own thing and somehow it still sells.

I hope the 1000 sounds great, I like the format, I'm used to "Boss programming", and I have the matching Boss GT bag :D At the $1K price point there is a lot of established competition, and the fear that this is just a clever repackaging of the old COSM stuff. I, like you, sincerely hope not, especially since they now call it AIRD (or whatever).

If you pick one up, please let us know what you think! I've been looking around for a good modeler, like the Helix or Headrush (I want everything in one, including exp pedal), so this may be a contender, have to wait and see. I sold pretty much everything to pay bills last year while I was unemployed, that included my pedalboard and AMT preamps, I kept the GT to get by with, and I picked it up cheap used so it was the practical choice. I'm looking to pick up a few good pieces of equipment that do what I need as I can.

Boss makes the worlds best sounding effects. I have used so many different kinds of effects from so many different companies and I always find my way back to Boss. Especially Delay Chorus and Reverb. You can get as good or better OD effects from other companies but not Modulation and Delay.
Amp Modeling Boss has lacked since the day they tried to do it. They are completely horrible and I was really hoping for a GT board without any modeling. I know the market demands that kind of product. Boss released the MS-3 which I ran out and got. It's just a pedal switcher with 3 loops and built in effects. I thought I found the right piece for me and I ended up trading it for a ES-5 and now I'm looking to grab a ES-8.
What surprised me about the MS-3 is the same loss in tone I got with the GT-100 I got with the MS-3. At $399 retail for the MS-3 I thought this might be the case as it's not a high end piece. The GT-1000 is coming in at $999 so I'm hoping for a Wazacraft level product. I want it to be the very best sounding thing they ever built. I'm not holding by breath as I really don't have high hopes.
The reason I keep looking to Boss and not to other companies who do a much better job is I like the way Boss effects sound in the stomp boxes. I will probably end up getting rid of the GT-1000 if it isn't incredible and picking up a ES-8 and calling it a day. I'm basically there now BUT I just gotta know if they finally built a pedal board that I can use all by itself and I'm very happy with it.
I'll cross my fingers
