Any advice for a jazz bass pickups beginner

Re: Any advice for a jazz bass pickups beginner

I once bought a ESP that came stock with a JB in the bridge. I wanted the sound of a distortion. What was I supposed to to do? Play with the guitar the way it was thinking I don't have the right to change it?

What is Seymour duncan purpose then?

I bought good basses cause I know how to play bass for a very long time. I listen to these basses for years since many players that I like use those basses. I also tried them at the store on an amp that wasn't mine.
After some time I want more punch that's all, and then I remembered that when I wanted to swap my guitar pickups I got some great advices from kind people on this website.

I f you are frustrated with your 150€ bass, that's not my fault. All I wanted was an advice to see if swapping the pickups on this kind of bass was a good idea or a mistake cause I would lose the stock sound of it.

I got it, seymour duncan only created jazz bass pickups for 150€ basses only and I'll stick with what I have
Thanks you for your help

Well, a few members don't represent the majority on this forum. Hopefully if you have questions or knowledge to share, you can consider this forum again. SD has bass pickups for everything...from $100 cheapies to multi-thousand $ custom basses. It just depends on the power, EQ, and hum-rejectability you want.

Nope, my $150 used scores were top of the line obscure $1000-ish stuff back in the 80s.... Fender American basses don't even tickle me.

What I *was* referring to was that Fender's recent catalogues are pretty much a menu of features, with a multitude of electronics woods and hardware options, and buying new, one might well pick what suits them. Especially when your choices suggest price wasn't an issue.

Visualize if you will a surprised restaurant employed saying "but sir, you SPECIFICALLY requested extra onions, no ketchup, and no pickles. BOTH TIMES, you know?"

The fact that you still don't seem to realize this suggests you're unfamiliar with what's actually out there.

Re: Any advice for a jazz bass pickups beginner

I play guitar and bass. I have one with passive pickups/no preamp (jazz bass), one with passive pickups/active preamp (with passive switch) and one with active pickups/active preamp. They all sound good and I can get whatever sound I need with the right preamp (rack or pedal).
Before swapping pickups in you jazz, you should try a preamp pedal first (I like my Ampeg SCR-DI). And you won't believe the sound I can get from my Jazz Bass using a tube bass preamp with crossover highs to guitar tube preamp, think King's X. Insane!!!!
Jazz bass are used in all kind of music, from jazz(!!!) to blues, to rock, to metal. Swapping pickups is always risky as you cannot try before installing and spending a lot of money.

Like any online forum, the loudest voices here are generally less concerned with your needs than with their opinions. There is a lot of good Ingo once you learn who you have to tune out or who you have to ignore the attitude that comes along with relevant information
