Any decent JCM800 in a box, for pretty high gain stuff?

D4 and D5 haha :D The ones I thought were it at first. I'm guessing this also changes clipping from symmetrical to assymetrical if I swap one of them out in the other way?
To make it assymetrical you'd need to put another one in series with either D4 or D5. For example, the Keeley Seeing Eye Mod, he adds a red LED in series with one of the diodes for a total of 3. That makes it assymetrical since the LED is being used as a clipper. Look at the SD-1 for assymetrical clipping. My SD-1 is still assymetrical but with 3 1N4001 diodes instead of the stock silicons.

Yeah that's what my SD1 has too. I replced the diodes for better ones, I think the same as yours actually. I haven't tried it as symmetrial clipping though.
I'll get the specs for the LEDs and try to replace these :) Thanks!

finished the prototype for a new Hi-Gain Distortion with 3 Band EQ that's really good sounding! Was going to call it Plexi100 bu there are too many pedals with "Plexi" in the name, and that doesn't cover all that this pedal does. The EQ, particularly the Midrange control, is very flexible. Sonny Landreth is beta-testing a version, more news when available.

So what's the jist of this post then? :)

That Fulltone is coming out with what could be a 'decent JCM800 in a box, for pretty high gain stuff'. ;)

Gotcha! Thanks for the clarification..:13:

Alright... I replaced R13 with a 2.2K resistor and R16 with a 4.7K and now the pedal feels more like a distortion. Less buzzy already. I'm not exactly sure of what R16 does but it's just before the tone control. Maybe it simply smoothes out the tone a little? That's what I heard at least. ErikH, I got this mod from your site, maybe you can tell me what it does? :P thanks!

I'd try more mods but I'm out of resistors and I don't have any of the proper caps.

Also I do have a spare LED, it's white, but I can't tell whether it's a 2V one or not... It's a 3mm white LED that came with Monteallums' SD1 modification kit.

Changing R16 will affect the mids some. Up the value for more, down for less. It most likely has an effect on the tone control some.

That explains the less fuzzy, fuller tone now that you say it. Thanks! The pedal has a way better sound with only 2 resistor swaps, I'm pretty impressed. I'll try to get more parts soon. Thanks Erik and everyone who helped!
I also got that $8 modification sheet that's got a lot of things on it which I'll have to try and take note of.

Alright! I just placed the LED in place of one the diodes and the sound is a little crunchier now... When I turn the level past 11 oclock it's still very Mesa alike, otherwise still good. Not much definition with the pedal like this though... I'll try to place another LED instead of D5 whenever I get one and carry on with other mods.

I need to get me a de-solderer, then i can start melting stuff to my ds1!!!
