Anyone else not like the feel of new strings?

I just put some GHS Boomers on and I don't like how slick they are. I like strings that are worn in a little. They're easier to play. My fingers go sliding when I play new strings.

When I started playing 20 years ago I didn't like the feel of new strings. Now, I welcome them on my electric, although the Elixers on my Taylor acoustic needs a couple of days to warm up.

I much prefer the feel and sound of new strings. They just sound brighter and clearer, especially on cleans. They feel a lot nicer too, somewhat "slinkier".

I like them broken-in a just a bit. Its not the feel of new strings, its the slightly "too lively" sound of new strings that kind thows me off a bit. A couple hours of play time brings them to just right tone - they usually stay there until they break (if I keep them clean and dry)

Satch,
For 25 years I used GHS. I found a few years back that they came out of the package with steel smut on them. It is a greasy substance used to keep steel from rusting. It also picks up dirt, in turn called smut. I wrote GHS about the problem and they did not bother to write me back.

I now use DiAddario strings. They are much better than GHS. Try a set and see! :)

Agreed I like string the best from just after a few hours onwards.

Re: Anyone else not like the feel of new strings?

I can't stand brand new strings. They sound so bright and horrible. I don't like overly dead strings either, but after a few days of playing where they've lost their edge but still play well is perfect.

New strings on an acoustic I really can't stand. I'll keep them on til they break. New ones are so annoying and brassy. ehhh...

Re: Anyone else not like the feel of new strings?

i don't like newly put strings. i like it better when broken-in first.

Yep, just used enough to knock off the "brightness" is perfect.

Re: Anyone else not like the feel of new strings?

Feel wise I have no problem but SOUND wise, I dislike how they sound metallic, however that goes away soon enough (About an hour or two after playing), then they're just how I like 'em ;)

Re: Anyone else not like the feel of new strings?

I love fresh DR strings, I love worn in DR strings. I love DR strings.

Re: Anyone else not like the feel of new strings?

I too don't like the over-the-top brightness of new strings, and I change only when the strings break (this is VERY rare) or 'til they don't keep in tune anymore.

Re: Anyone else not like the feel of new strings?

I love the sound of new strings. I use D'Addario strings and they are amazing no matter how worn they are.
