Re: Anyone Familiar With THD Electronics?
Never had any dealings with the company, but I've plugged into most of the products they've put out over the years. One thing about THD that puts them ahead of most amp companies is that they've learned how to properly route a printed circuit board so it sounds more like a handwired amp. Even the Bogner website recognizes Andy Marshall from THD's expertise in this area. One reason you hear purists endlessly rag on printed circuit board amps is because a trained ear can hear the difference between P to P and PCB. THD and Bogner have led the pack when it comes to designing PCB amps that sound far better than average. It usually has to do with using higher grade components instead of the tiny ones you'll find on budget amps.
Also, when the tracers on PCB amps are routed too close together and parallel, it creates small capacitances which kill tone. Too technical to go into here, but THD is definitely a leader in tube amp technology. I almost bought a THD Bassman a few weeks ago, but stopped myself. Also love the Univalve, Bivalve, Flexi, and Hotplate.
