Anyone tried 250k volume with ......

Re: Anyone tried 250k volume with ......

You're right, I apologize for my share in this. Sometimes I just get tired of Lew's 'Prouncement from Above' that have been going on for years, and get drawn into presenting the other side. I should just tune it out.

You both always offer great info on the forums(I try and do the same)..Both of you are forum friends of mine..Keep it real..I'm not into the pissing matches between us these days(Its just a forum anyway)..We need to help each other, listen, and have fun.Life is so short and there are way more important things in life than bickering on a forum! Peace guys!:beerchug:

Re: Anyone tried 250k volume with ......

You know what's funny "Bluesman"?

Everything you keep accusing me of is exactly what you are guilty of doing - not me.

In psychology it's called "projection".

"Projection is a defense mechanism that involves taking our own unacceptable qualities or feelings and ascribing them to other people. For example, if you have a strong dislike for someone, you might instead believe that he or she does not like you. Projection works by allowing the expression of the desire or impulse, but in a way that the ego cannot recognize, therefore reducing anxiety."

Here's a couple of links if you'd care to read more about your mental condition:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection

http://psychology.about.com/od/theoriesofpersonality/ss/defensemech_7.htm

I'm just nitpicking - totally unrelated to anything else in the thread - projection IS NOT a mental condition. The definition you just posted said it exactly how it is: a defense mechanism. I use it, you use it, blueman335 uses it, and everyone uses it. Do we all have a mental condition now for periodically resorting to an extremely common defense mechanism? No. We all have our favorite defense mechanisms that we resort to - I know I often resort to humor, reaction formation, and sublimation - but we are all guilty of every defense mechanism at some point.

I just had to say that. I strongly detest psychobabble.

And all this from a 16 y/o....LMAO!

Maybe he's more mature than the rest of us.

Not a chance in hell haha.

Right now I'm going through cognitive dissonance. I usually hate those "know-it-all" types, especially the Advanced Placement high school kids that act like experts. But here I am preaching about defense mechanisms. I don't know what to do: Restore cognitive comfort by altering my attitude towards the "know-it-all" type, or alter my behavior by just STFU.

Perhaps my attitude towards the "know-it-all" type would also be an example of me implementing projection? The whole issue is rarely ever simple, and usually there is a lot of psychological theories and phenomena involved.

I'll take that as a complement? :D
:?:

com·ple·ment

noun\ˈkäm-plə-mənt\: something that completes something else or makes it better
: the usual number or quantity of something that is needed or used
grammar : a word or group of words added to a sentence to make it complete

Not only is he more mature than us, he's smarter than us.

Stick around kid.

Re: Anyone tried 250k volume with ......

What is with all of the butthurt on this forum lately? Could we please stop throwing around the "no, you talked badly about what I like first!" crap, give it a rest, and go back to talking about guitar stuff? Really, why does anyone care if someone said something bad about THEIR tone and how THEY don't like 250k pots in THEIR gear? No one said anyone else's tone is crap, just their own tone with 250k pots. This is not even about people's guitar playing, not even their tone, not even their guitars, but some widgets that people type about, in their guitars, on a forum. ****.

Re: Anyone tried 250k volume with ......

on-topic, i'd keep the higher value volume pots in. especially with the DD, so you can play with the cleans, and i'd want a 500K pot with the custom 5 too (even if i'm attenuating a lot of top end elsewhere).
these days i usually have the treble on the amp on about 2, and roll the pickup volume down too, but i want to keep everything handy signal-wise.
you never know when you might need a bit of harsh twang.

Re: Anyone tried 250k volume with ......

It's been done for hours, now. Thanks for trying though.

OP: When will you be able to run your own tests with pot values?

Re: Anyone tried 250k volume with ......

I use 500K's on a few bridge PU's: Rio Grande Bar-B-Que's and Lollar HB-sized P-90's. They're still on the warm side even with 500K's. On a few others, a 250K volume and 500K tone works. I'll use 1-megs on some neck HB's. To me, it's whatever pot value gives me what I need. I see what it sounds like with the stock 500K's and take it from there.

Rick...At times I Like the 300k value.I've used these in strats where there's a fullsized bucker in the bridge.Single coils just sound to harsh and toppy with the 500k volume pot.I've also used the 250k in same scenario. In my Gibson type instruments I "normally" do stick with 500k,but I've never tryed anything else, though I Know you like the 250k to tame your bridge humbuckers.Whatever works right?

I find that "alot" of the 250k pots don't read that and they read low. ;o(

Re: Anyone tried 250k volume with ......

Wow. I have never seen a thread with so many white bars in it. So far, 41 out of 100 posts in the thread.
