Re: Are all celestion speakers now made in China?

I read Celestion rep. say that the first year of production in China was a little shaky, but now that the machines are are all in use properly and all the kinks are ironed out, the current product for the last 5-6 years is as good or even better than the UK product.

Funny how so many will forgive the MIC Celestions but the Italian made Jensen reissues are hated.

Also, if the "same specs, same tooling" argument holds true, then explain the NOS tubes thing. A good number of modern production tubes are using the same tooling from the famous classic brands yet many insist the old MIA tubes sound better.

How many times did you sample this during the last years?

Re: Are all celestion speakers now made in China?

I question this story. Vintage series have been made in China for more then 20 years, so I doubt anyone had a pair of V30 for 20 years and hadn't used them (since they were not broke in yet.) Here is how to tell the difference between UK and Chinese production. It is easy to tell the difference between UK and Chinese built Celestion Speakers. The UK speakers are the “Heritage” series (and not Vintage series and I have heard that the “Blues” series versions are as well but I don’t know that for sure. I have also read that the “Vintage” series is made in the UK but they are NOT and are clearly marked “Celestion International” or “International LTD”. However, if a speaker is made in the UK it is clearly marked “Made in England” on the label and are made by “Celestion LTD”. If a speaker says “Celestion International” or International LTD they ARE Chinese. The Chinese also say Ipswitch England but it doesn’t mean they are made in the UK. The world headquarters for “Celestion International LTD” is in Ipswitch, UK but the speaker are made in Chinese. “Made in England” speaker say “Thames Ditton Surrey” (were they are made in the UK) and not “Ipswitch England”. The entire alnico magnet “Blue and Gold back” speaker are Chinese, don’t have that classic Celestion sound and are very expensive because the Alnico (rare earth) magnets cost a fortune. The best sounding Celestion speakers are the “G12 Green backs ” (Heritage Series) with (green) ceramic magnets ($200 each) but not the G10s. If you go to Sweetwater you can view the labels clearly with their magnifying feature. So look for labels that say “Made in England”, “Thames Ditton Surrey” and “Celestion LTD” if you want true UK build Celestion speakers. All others are Chinese.

Yeah this steaming pile of feces thread from 5 years ago wasnt worth dredging up to add that to it...

Re: Are all celestion speakers now made in China?

no not all. the vintage for marshall, vintage 30 for mesa and their heritage speakers are still made in jolly old england. people on the marshall forum say there's no difference sonically. mine are all UK made.

May the merciful gods, if indeed there be such, guard those hours when no power of the will, or drug that the cunning of man devises, can keep this thread from the chasm of sleep. Death is merciful, for there is no return therefrom, but with this thread that has come back out of the nethermost chambers of night, haggard and knowing, peace rests nevermore once resurrected by a mortal.

Re: Are all celestion speakers now made in China?

there is a lot of gear made in China, that most people do not even known about.

China has some of the most advance manufacturing processes in the world, low cost, and that is why a lot of US brands actual have there gear and parts made there! (Including Gibson and Fendr)

Re: Are all celestion speakers now made in China?

kids and prisoners hammering used garbage can lids into the shape of tuners is far from advanced manufacturing.

Well, since nobody seems to be adding anything of use to this thread besides some necromancy...
