Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?
guys c'mon, lets cut the crap..it's not the sound room..
barbarianbrute,
as with ANY gear review page, you can't HEAR tone by READING reviews..
that's why when i was looking into the CM plexitone, i asked some basic functionality questions..and tried it for myself so I could judge. I suggest the same..
I plugged the plexitone into a marshall 1987X and it was very rocking indeed. Not harsh, smooth overall sound (mine is softer due to it being an earlier version), and somewhat saggy(saturated) bottom end depending on how much gain you goose in.
What i like about this pedal is that acts like a secondary gain channel to your current amp..if you increase the level, not only does volume increase, but you get some more saturation as well. What i mean when i say, "it reacts like an amp" i mean that if you plug into a 1987X, it sounds like a cranked 1987X at lower volumes, if you play a laney lc15r, it sounds like a cranked one at lower volumes..it gets better as you turn it up of course..
nowadays, i don't really use the boost side.
rather, i goose the rhythm channel with a boss super overdrive (level high, gain low)
for leads..
i feel it can get diverse shades of gain with that particular combination..for example, from aerosmith to scorps,whitesnake..
try it through a good british sounding amp..i don't think you'll be dissappointed..if you're into classic tones at least
