Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

Nowadays I am playing quite a lot of gigs with my band. Even tho I generally use my fat tele for reasons of versatility, my band members are making me play my 95 honeyburst! :smack: They say I sound like myself with that guitar. They say I am not bad at all with my tele or strat, yet with them they say I seem to be a LP guy who forgot his guitar at home and uses teles and strats for substitute.

Of course when recording there is space for all of them. No biggie there. But in a gig I prefer to keep things simple, and am not carrying lots of guitars. Just one is enough.

Frankly, even tho I love teles, even tho I adore strats, even tho used SGs etc, I am a LP guy at heart. In fact I am talking about this one.

What about you?

BTW real men play LPs! :laugh2: :alcoholic

I'm like you, doc. I love my Tele, I love my strat, and I'm sure if I ever finished my Ibanez I would really like it, too, but no matter how much I say I like those guitars, it seems that my LP will always be my #1. I feel more expressive with it than any other guitar.

bolt on strats all the way. i've tried les pauls and they werent for me. i havent ever "gelled" with a set neck guitar. or through neck for that matter.

a strat or a tele, modded to hell or traditional style suits me fine :)

Word :)

I am a LP guy at heart, too. I like girls with butt :D

I could not imagine myself with anything from Leo's design family, both appearance and tone. In the practice, it looks that I deformed that beautiful design into my needs. The axe that is 100% for me is made of lightwheight alder with bolt-on 25 1/2 scale slim maple neck is not that LP but anyway, it has one of the nicest Paul-esque neck tones I've ever heard.

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

I consider myself a Strat guy all the way. All my guitar heroe's played 'em, they look so damn cool, they feel perfect, they sound soulful, and for all the other typical Strat arguements. Although I confess they sometimes fall a little short for some sounds. And some of the sounds they fall short for are really part of me. So I need my Strat to be fat.

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

LP guy all the way. I have 4 guitars and 3 of them are single cuts. I love the way they sound, play and look. Like Gamera, all my heroes played pauls.

(inserts goth voice) "I'm a non conformist... everyone else is conformist pigs". :D

In all seriousness, I love Teles, Strats and LPs. However, I beat to a different drum. I like guitars that people don't know about or play (like the Andreas Shark). I love rooting for the underdog when it comes to just about anything and I love something that stands out. I've written a lot of material on my Les Pauls, but they don't really inspire me like they do for other people.

My new guitar will be revealed soon ;)

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

I love my LP's and Strat's and I'm just getting used to my Tele, but deep down inside I think my Gibby LP Standard will always be my #1.

An LP was the 1st 'proper' guitar I ever had, so I guess I grew acustomed (sp?) to playing them. It took me absolutely ages before I could actually pickup a Strat and play it, but I guess I got used to that too :)

I love having both kinds of guitars available to me when I record etc but I'll always own atleast 1 LP style guitar :)

Ya, Les pauls just seem real. Once you find "the one" then thats the only one you need. Dr. Barlo, what pickups do you have in that paul?

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

Im a Tele man. I love the look of LP's, but something is missing for me. I love the bare bones of a good, beat up Tele!

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

Don't get me wrong, I love teles and strats. Do play them a lot, do tons of mods on them bla bla bla... But even a fat/fat hardtail strat honestly does not do it for me. LPs all the way! :D

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

I own and play all the guitars you mentioned and a few you didn't. When playing electric at a gig I will generally bring 2 guitars. Myy EC Sig. Strat, and my Tabocco 335. IF I need a guitar for slide I will bring My SG or a Tele.

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

Well, I've always had both a Strat and an LP. These two guitars are tone Monsters, even though they're different. I just have to have the versatility of the two very different sounds and feels. So, just bring both to gigs! Hell, with all the other crap you have to drag along, what's another guitar case?

And get roadies! It's great when all you have to bring to a gig is your guitar. (Nobody but me carries my axes. Nobody...)

Hello Doc...I own at least one of each of all the guitars you mention but I Own alot of strats...A strat is always my main instrument...I can cover every single tune our band does with a strat and I find the Gibson instruments to be a bit limiting...You can't do "Sultans of Swing" and get it to sound right on a les PAUL..After a strat for me,every other axe becomes a secondary instrument...When I say the Gibson instrument is a bit limiting,I just mean that it doesn't quite hit the mark in getting me the variety of tones the strat can...On the other hand though, the les paul and SG is king for doing things like Cream,Led zeppelin,Bad Co,Free etc...I'll always have 1 strat,a tele, and either the Les Paul or the SG at every gig...All bases are covered..

I love my telecaster. 2003 MIM Agave blue w/ maple neck modded for 3 way kill switch in the upper right. part of the pickgaurd. Maybe replacing the pickups someday. I love the feel when it's loaded with Fender Super Bullet 10's...

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

I'ma strat guy, althought I was a nice SG, a nice LP and a nice Tele, too. Ya know? Just to get to know them, but... I don't think anything will ever take the Strat's place in my heart. Maybe... I could see myself playing LP's if so inclined... but, I'm still a strat guy.

That's purely based on the body, not the elects. If pickups and such were an issue, I'd take an LP.

The PRS type guitars, I can never play, I don't like them much.

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

LP....my homebrewed one that is! Kind of combines all things LP with a tummy cut and a different neck joint (bolted in aka PRS) and heel slashed for easier playing up high.
I also like Jacksons as long as it has a thicker neck.

I'm a "Super Strat" guy, ie, I love the Strat shape, bolt-on necks, humbucker in the bridge, and a "floating" Floyd Rose Tremolo.

Re: Are you a Tele/Strat/LP/SG/PRS/... guy gal?

I love my strat, but it really depends on which guitar i play the most. If I break a string on my strat, I'll play the paul and like it a lot better. Then I'll start playing the strat and I'll like it a lot better. I guess it just takes some time to get the right feel for the instrument. If I had to choose one I would probably choose my strat, though. I't feels like it won't break no matter what I do to it.

What can I say, its a fuking tank.

I'll go with the super strat thing..i dont like single coils...
add:
2 HBs (custom Custom/APH2)
1 master tone
1 Wilkenson bridge
Locking tuners
scalloped neck
Piezo pickups which double as synth pickups
and shave off a pound or 2 and it is perfect- I don't ask for much.
