Yeah, even if its not probable to make it another footswitch, if/when I build the ts clone, I'm definately going to include a mini-toggle for the midspike on or off.

i'd like to know if that can be done also (mini toggle) and the correct way to do it b/c i may consider adding a toggle to mine to switch b/t the two caps.

i just changed the led to a clear one that lights up purple and it looks sweet, kind of like a black light, fits the vibe of the pedal very well.

i have so many projects going on that i'm building and wiring and setting up guitars and things that i haven't been playing as much lol. i need to finish off one last project and spend more time with the "primal scream" and i can give a better review.

Re: Attack of the clone...

hey Xss what watt soldering iron do you use.. is 35 too hot for the small parts?

Re: Attack of the clone...

i use a 25w weller with a fine tip...it's actually the same iron you can order through the buildyourownclone site (here all the way on the bottom http://www.buildyourownclone.com/supplies.html) i got mine at home depot i think, it was a while ago. i've only used a 25w and a 40w and the 40w was too damn hot and would kill pots if you held it on too long, the 25w seems perfect to me, never had a problem with it.

thanks

Re: Attack of the clone...

it doesn't look polarized so i drew up this diagram. the blue wires would go where the capacitor would be.

Re: Attack of the clone...

A digital delay voiced to have the same high end roll off that gave
vintage analog delays their warm tone. The expensive BBD (bucket
brigade delay) chips they used were not the secret...it was their high
frequency filter. This filter rolls off a little high end with each repeat
and creates the atmospheric effect of each repeat travelling farther
and farther away that most digital delays were unable to recreate.

Digital's only obvious advantage is longer delay times. With
approximately 600ms the DD-80 digital delay kit has nearly twice as
much delay time as most vintage analog delays. It can be easily
modified for twice as much delay time for more than 1 second, but
delay times over 600ms will have a very "lo-fi" quality to them. And
the kit comes with the part for the mod.

And, yes...this delay can self oscillate and yes it is true bypass.

Ah and he knows his tuff too:D
Guys this is a little goldmine for yer here!

If it's good enough for Rid, then anyone else who naysays is talking out of the wrong end!

I cant wait for my rangemaster clone to come in... I might end up building every pedal he has to offer eventually. Exact same circuitry as the originals, at only 70 bucks? thats less than a boss pedal!

i with you man...i'm going to build a few in the future. the sceamer rocks! he also gives you extra parts for mods which no big company will do.

i just tried the texas instruments OP amp in place of the JRC that's standard in a tube screamer (he gives you both). holy crap the TI chip made this pedal even more of an animal...from a nice push on a clean channel to enough balls for some ac/dc with no problem still on a clean channel. it can be smooth and thick or with the tone knob twisted a bit more to the right, snappy and agressive. very cool sounds from this pedal on it's own using a clean amp channel or through a slightly gritty channel for even more balls. add it infront of a high gain channel and roll down the drive and up the level then tweek the tone and holy crap, hold on to your pants b/c notes just scream off the fretboard!! i'm very happy with the pedal...even more now with the TI chip and the purple LED lol.

Mike: when I build the TS clone, I'd like to find a way to have 2 mini switches for the two chips and the two caps... think theres enough room in the chassis for that?

When I ordered the rangemaster, I put in a comment telling them they're getting rave reviews on the forums here. Figured I'd let them know they're doing something right.

Re: Attack of the clone...

there should be enough room in there but man switching b/t the chips would be a pain lol...there are a lot of little "feet" on that thing to solder lol. i'm leaving mine as is with the 22 cap and the TI chip, this thing rocks!! however i may add the toggle for the cap but i'm happier now with the TI chip, the other one was cool but this one seems much more ballsy which i like!

Re: Attack of the clone...

XSSIVE, that's really beautiful!... but we demand som clips, don't we? ;) no, it really would be nice to hear it.

btw. I would keep the red led, not change it to purple...think it'll look better with red. But that's just me :)

Re: Attack of the clone...

sorry man i already put in the purple led and it looks killer...kind of like a black light...flows with the theme much better since it's clear when off then creepy purple/blue when on hehe. as for clips i have no way to record clips of my "live" rig with the "primal scream" and through the podXT/atomic combo it just sounds no where near as good as it does through the engl or my other all tube amps. if i get a mic setup for the engl in the future i'll make sure to post some though.

Re: Attack of the clone...

That's pretty sweet stuff. I may have to give one or more of those a shot. Looks good, I love the raw look of it.

Re: Attack of the clone...

Thanks Mike...these pedals are great IMO. fun to build and some great sunds to be had along with easy to add mods included with the kit.
