Average Cost of a Warmoth / USACG Parts Build?

Re: Average Cost of a Warmoth / USACG Parts Build?

Mine have run $800-$1200 depending on pickups and hardware. For me, totally worth it. Learn how to solder, learn how to work on frets, and learn how to finish your own necks and it becomes much more worthwhile. Your first build may not turn out so great but it's to "get your hands wet." I'd recommend tearing up a few Squires or tearing up some Craigslist guitars before taking the parts plunge. I'd stick to paying more for a finished body though. Another critical factor in parts guitars is the alignment of the neck and body. If you can, order them both at the same time and ask that the neck pocket has a snug fit.

My Warmoth LP was about $1400 all said and done. I consider it a bargain considering what I got.

for your tele jonesin', i'd recommend looking for a decent quality knockoff and upgrading it .. i bought a MIK tokai clone of a 52ri and then dropped a few SD pickups (vintage stacks) and new pots, switch, etc ... next up will be a new nut and compensated bridge ... but it is a killer guitar and i will have less than $500 in it

Cool --- where'd you find a Tokai around here?

OH SNAP! A page from my own playbook! :laugh2:

There were exactly 0 links to purchasing / obtaining Tokai Telecasters in the U.S. on the page generated by your query.

If you're going to "pwn," at least do it right! :laugh2:

But seriously gang, I think that I am certainly more likely to obtain already-built guitars and go from there as opposed to piecing one together from scratch.

I do not have the need for anything special --- just good.

I'd say the budget depends for me on one key factor, I've yet to see a Left Handed Body in the Warmoth Showcase! though, the odd neck is available!

I will probably not look for a Tokai specifically, but will keep my eyes open, knowing that they are a good value.

I am guessing Fender-off-Craigslist will be where I land for my body and I will try and get whatever necks I can for these guys.

I found a MIM Rosewood board HSS Strat WITH a VOX AD15VT for $345 today

This can easily be done for under a grand. Even less if you do the tinted clear finish yourself. My butterscotch Tele was just about $870, including a Callaham bridge.

Check out Warmoth's "Screaming Deals" section after you surf eBay and Craigslist. You'd be surprised at what comes across that on a daily basis.

Re: Average Cost of a Warmoth / USACG Parts Build?

Well, doing a gloss finish on Ash is quite a bit of work.

"Mary Kay" sunk in nitro finishes don't require filling, but they only look good when done very right and I don't think I've seen a clear one come out right.

I'd say for the body let Warmoth do it.

Nitro-finishing a maple fretboard neck that has the frets in turned out to be a nasty piece of work for me, so I don't recommend that either. Tru Oil might do it better, dunno.

Re: Average Cost of a Warmoth / USACG Parts Build?

i built myself a spreadsheet. its simple, but for it to work, you need to list EVERYTHING (shipping, tax, finishing, etc etc)

once you have an idea what you want, then you can start shopping for deals.

it also lets you see the % of each part, on a $1000 axe, going from a stock fender bridge to a callaham is like 2% more....
