Bad joke... not fun at all!!!

I wrote a thread a few weeks ago about my Epi coming back from the luthier with a set of '59. I was really happy with it, and still am. I like the sound of it and its playability.

But something is bothering me, I can't help thinking that I got ...

... two neck pups instead of a set. :yell: :yell: :yell:

What make me think that: Well, you can check on the picture, the pole piece are not in line with the strings and after mesuring to be sure, neck and bridge pup have the same spacing between the screws.

I know that i am happy with it so far, but I'm sure that if I am right, it could sound even better!

What is the difference between a '59 neck and a '59 bridge apart for the spacing?

Do you think it would be really worth to get a '59 bridge?

standard neck and bridge duncan pickups are spaced the same. Trem-spaced bridge pickups are wider for floyd rose and trem bridges. I think if you got a trem spaced one it might be TOO wide. I can't say without measuring the string spread.

With that said, I don't think duncan makes a trem spaced '59 model.

This is correct, except that there IS a TB-1

Measure your e-strings.. If the distance between them at the bridge is 2" or more, a trembucker will line up better

Thanks guys for the replies.

However I got 2 questions:

1-) If you are right, How come on my Gibson, the poles line up perfectly with the strings for both pickups despite the different spacing (bridge spacing between E-e = 50mm, neck spacing = 45mm)? And I checked the former Epi pups, the bridge was slightly larger than the neck... I am gonna check again.
2-) 2" = ??mm = 50.8mm isn't it

some tuno-matics have wider spacing. look at stew mac and you'll see some are wider than 2", I'm pretty sure at least. maybe your gibson has a nicer bridge?

You gots to remember bro, Epi's are just that. Epis. They aint Gibsons with a different headstock and badge. They use different parts. Actually, they use Samick parts. So pull a hummy out of a Samick and slap it in there, and it'll fit just fine.

Some Gibson Pickups(490R, 490T, 498T, 500T etc.) have different polepiece spacing for the bridge and neck position(R-neck, T-bridge). But the PAF-derived Gibsons(burstbuckers, 57 classics, etc.) have the same spacing on both positions.

When you can't find a pickup for your spacing... Get one with blades.

Take out the screws holding the mounting ring in, and see what the sticker says. It's probably just the wrong spacing, in which case, don't worry about it.

That's the thing I love with the forum, when there is something you don't know about your axe or other piece of your gear, Thereare always a band of forumites that do.

I wouldn't worry about trem-spacing or not, unless you feel like there is something missing. And I mean REALLY feel it.

I think Zerb already covered this, but just to reiterate, my bridge 59 is tremspaced. Along with the "regular" 59 in the neck, its the only guitar I have that has perfect string alignement on all pups.
